try opening the photos folder and on the bottom right in skydrive , click the information tree arrow ,there is an option to change the folder type, check it to see that it is set to photos, reset it if you want then the photos should display when you click the photos link as in your second pic.

I think the problem was you need to be in "Files" (from the left sidebar), you were in Documents. According to your screenshots anyways.

Fixed, from a fellow named Ludwig Keck.

You have run into an interesting problem. As you know, SkyDrive has been around for a long time and has undergone many, many changes. At first, before it got the name SkyDrive, how it worked and what you could do was very restricted. As it evolved, Microsoft has done a good job of maintaining backward compatibility. At first there were a set of folders that came already existing and designed for specific types of files. "Documents" was one of those. That folder was for documents and not photos, it could not be renamed and the folder type could not be changed. Some of these old, restricted, folders are still around. Your "Pictures" folder seems to be one of them, however, I do not know how you managed to rename it from "Documents".

Rather than fighting with the problem, I suggest this work-around:
Create a new folder (click New folder). You might call it Photos, it doesn’t matter. By default the folder type will be Documents. Don’t worry about that, just accept it for now. Then go to your “Pictures” folder, to Details view to see all the items listed. Click on the checkbox in front of “Name” to check all the items. then click on Move to in the right pane. Select the new folder as the destination. You have a lot of material in your folder but don’t worry, the move operation is quite fast. I have not moved that much material at once, so I am curious how long it actually takes, minutes?

Once a JPG file is moved into a newly-created folder it will be automatically reset to Photos from Documents.

Please let me know how this works for you.
