Yep, good. That's what is floating around in there. So that Molex adapter (I'm learning ) looks like it's what I need. I was ready to switch out my new dual quad with my old 650 psu juuust for the 2nd hard drive capability.

btw, I laughed cuz you switched to my language to help me understand what you were talking about. Cracked me up

I have daisy chained several of these molex Y-splitters to connect up to 8 HDs (SATA & IDE) to one 480 watt PSU. Even used several connected together coming out a slot in the back of the case so I could easily test hook up & test various spare HDs

Ok, I tried this but it didn't work out. When I powered up the old pc, my new pc desktop came up. Then I powered up the new pc. When I looked under computer it only showed 1 hard drive, which was from my old pc. It didn't show a 2nd HD. It never screamed that there was no hard drive, but I have 2 in my old pc and maybe that's why? At any rate, this isn't about the hardware anymore. Let me know if I need to move my question. When the pcs were both going I had a message on the desktop that said my version of Windows 7 Home wasn't genuine. So now I'd like to know if I can load my legit disk of Windows 7 Prof. over the windows home that this new computer gave me? Naturally WITHOUT erasing everything already on the HD??? I was kind of wishing I could do that anyway since I bought the thing and if I want to upgrade someday I can do it online.

I should look thru my old posts, if I can. I believe I came here for help to load the thing and WAS able to do it without erasing my hard drive.

It sounds like you have both hard drives connected to the old PC!

You should have no hard drives connected (with the SATA cables) to the old PC and both hard drives connected (with the SATA cables) to the new PC.

You should have one SATA power connector from the old PC connected to the old Hard Drive, and the new hard drive should be in the new computer just like it always was - with the SATA power connected from the new computer and the SATA cable from new hard drive to the new motherboard.

You have it connected correctly if you start the old computer and nothing happens, just a black screen.

There is no need to worry about the new hard drive. Windows woke up and found itself in "someone else's body" and freaked. That is why you got the "genuine" message. Just put the hard drive back in it's correct "body" and all will be fine!

I have bought over 20 SATA HDs in the past year, & non have had both power connectors. I f I remember correctly these dual power connectors were from very early model SATA HD's.

Plus we had one member try to hook up power to the 8 tiny jumper pins (#3) & fried the HD

OMG.. some people are NUTS! I'm calling pc places around here for that splitter. I called one store and was put on hold twice for about 4 mins. The girl picks up the phone again and tells me she's going to put me on hold again. I then hang up as I have a list of stores to call. She calls me back and said, "This is Geek Squad calling back, I mistakenly said I wanted to put you on hold, what I meant was how can I help you" ... I tell her nevermind, and thank you and hang up. She calls back again two more times and now my phone is off the hook while I type this. Nice way to run a business lunatic. I'm being harrassed becuz I choose to hang up lol ... what a nut! Caller ID .. what a pain in the a$$.

Amazon has these splitters for under $2. I'm still trying to find one I can pick up today.
