Hello,

I have a program called 'wd anywhere backup' by western digital, a backup program, that constantly runs, because it syncs any changes in files, and backs them up in real time.

...this program stops my pc from sleeping.

I have a command that runs on a scheduled task, that kills the program - so that it'll let my pc sleep when idle.

but ... like on apple, is their a way of letting the comp sleep, but to exclude the program running, or ignore it ? or a task ? or a command ?

Many thanks

How many files is it watching? My feeling about these autobackup on change utilities is that they are fine in concept. But in practice they use a Windows API to detect file system changes, that is a resource hog.

If you have a single folder tree that you back up my recommendation is to use FreeCommander folder compare/sync function or something similar. The folder contents compare is fast. You are presented with a list of all files that would be copied with arrows showing the direction of the copy and if there is a target file that will be overwritten. You can remove any entries from the list before pressing Go.

Make sure to download fc_setup_.zip at the bottom of this page:
FreeCommander - freeware file manager

The newer free commander XE is not completely implemented yet. The folder sync and file renamer in this tool are gems. But only the 2009 version has them.

Hello there stuartrozier,

Unfortunately, there is no way for a certain Windows based computer to enter sleep mode and in the same time have a program actively working on it.

Hope this helps

thanks for reply, so for late response -

do think their might be a script that could possibly be written, that could be executed when idle, that would possibly override the program running ? maybe, possibly ha
