Slideshows do not work on websites

I've signed up for a couple of health-related email newsletters such as webmd that include a sideshows. When I click on Next to access the slides, I get this message in a box:
[JavascriptApplication]: Error adding rule: constraint failed
[FONT=&quot]It seems that Javascript is often a method of torture for me; I am unable to access some websites or go the next page in a site when various Javascript messages appear in the lower left corner of the screen. One search comment on this problem said to disable AdBlock which I did: the slideshows still don't work. Thank you for any ideas you all may have to fix this. This is my favorite forum. ec[/FONT]

Yes, I have some kind of Java installed. In fact, I sometimes get update emails from Sun to download the latest JRE and did so not long ago. I have other Java stuff in my system, most of which I don't know what it is:
JavaDB
javascript_1.0.2007.0406.fzi
jdk-6u26-windows-i586
jre-7u1-windows-i586
I disabled these in Firefox addons:
Java Development Toolkit7.0.10.8 (NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java ™ Deploy
Java™ Platform SE 7 U1 10.1.0.8 (Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.1.10 for Mozilla browers
Java has always been a mystery to me. I don't know what Java apps to have in my system. Thank you so much for your prompt reply. ec

Try enableing the java options that you disabled and see if things work then.

Are the slide shows in the newsletter or do the newsletters merely provide a link that opens IE8? If the latter post the web link here so we can try it. I use Javascript, since most websites make use of it. That's also known as "scripting" and is part of most browsers and is enabled by default. Java, however, is a separate program that needs to be downloaded and installed. Since it requires frequent updating due to security issues, it's best not to install it unless you know you need it for something specific. So if I can view the slideshow, you'll know that Java is not required since I don't have it installed.

To enable Javascript in IE9 do the following:
1. Click on the Tools icon.
2. Then click -> Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level button > Scroll to the Scripting" section near the bottom, and under "Active scripting select Enable.
3. Click OK.

Exit IE9 and restart a new instance of IE9 .

Solution found for slideshows!

I just disabled a Firefox addon that popped up everytime I tried to access a link in a slideshow on websites: it's an HTTPS addon. I just removed it and now I can access the slideshows. Thank you to all of you who replied to my query with your ideas. It's greatly appreciated. ec

Как-то мне понадобился самый обычный слайдер (slideshow) - галерея картинок сменяющих друг друга. Многие украшают свои сайты меняющимися картинками. И все бы просто - лезь в интернет - там такого много. Все так, но то, что мне попадалсь - было реализовано с использованием jquery. А мне захотелось создать что-то подобное, но только с использованием javascript. Ничего похожего мне не попалось - пришлось сделать самому javascript слайдер шоу (javascript slideshow slider show)
