Hi guys this is my first post here. I have browsed the forum tons in the past. Any who onto my issue.

I built my computer about a year ago.

CPU: Intel i7-2600k sandy bridge 3.4 quad core
MOBO: Asus Sabertooth P67 (Updated to latest 3602 bios)
GPU: AMD HD 6970 x2 (Updated to ltest 13.4 drivers)
MEMORY: Corsair Vengence 16 GB
POWER SUPPLY: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1000
HARD DISK: 1) OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB 2) Hitachi 1TB GST Deskstar

For the last year or so everything has been working 100% ultra fast as I designed it. Up until about a week ago I began noticing lag with aero. When I opened/closed/minimized windows the animations moved in slow motion. I checked all the windows updates and my video card drivers everything was up to date. On restart I then noticed the computer was taking forever to boot. The lights in the windows logo move at snail speed. What used to be a 15 second boot now takes roughly 1 minute and a half. SO I began researching. Heres a list of things ive done/tried:

  • Ran all the troubleshooters I could for windows everything came back with no errors.
  • Reverted back to old driver for video card problems persisted
  • I had firmware issues with the SSD in the past so I wiped the SSD using Parted Magic and updated the firmware. Reinstalled windows and the problem persisted.
  • I then did away with the SSD all together and installed on the 1TB...problem persisted.
  • I undid crossfire on the video card and tried single and tried swapping the two in case a card was going bad...problem persisted
  • ran memtest86 twice passed both times without errors
  • Double checked all the connections and plugs which all were fine
  • ran numerous different performance testing software all which did not yield any errors
  • generated a system health report and got tv_configMgrErr43 and a error 52

Symptom: tv_ConfigMgrErr43
Cause: A device has a configuration problem that prevents it from working properly.
Details: The device, Unknown Device, is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr43". This device will not be available until the issue is resolved. The Plug and Play ID for this device is USB\VID_0000-PID_0000\6-DF2EE03-0-1.
Resolution: 1. Verify the correct driver is installed.
2. Try updating the drivers using Windows Update.
3. Check with the manufacturer for an updated driver.
4. Attempt to uninstall and then reinstall the device using Device Manager.

not to sure what these apply to, but windows is fully updated.

I've run into a dead end and am not sure what to try next. The only things next I can think of is possibly something with the MOBO or Power supply, but its strange because aside from those problems the computer works normal. Im open to any ideas or suggestions. Im sure theres some small stuff along the way I may have left out.

Thanks in advance

Ok I went through the list of things in the troubleshooting link. Most I already did. The SFC /Scannow was good too. I did the traces here are my links

Boot Trace Zip: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87636946/Boot Trace.zip
Shutdown Trace: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...CE+PERF_COUNTER+POWER+PRIORITY+REGISTRY_1.etl
Reboot Trace Zip (Got a BSOD during this which startup repair had to fix): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87636946/Reboot Trace.zip

The last time I ran memtest86 I did it for about 5 hrs. Im going to rerun it again overnight. Is it a big difference using memtest86 vs memtest86+?

Thanks again in advance

Help for the boot trace is best provided in the tutorial's comments section by its author.

I've been working a project and missed this thread. I'll try to download the files if they still exist on the share later this evening.

Well I confirmed it is not the video cards. I installed a old Nvidia card I had in another computer. All the same problems still exist. I attempted to play a game today to see if it would run and the game menu works fine, but anything that is graphic intensive lags so bad. Its like everything is on slow motion.

So far imo I can rule out the GPU's and the Hard rives because ive swapped/tested with other parts and issue persisted.
I dont have a power supply to test, but im not getting any error lights on mobo like when I intentionally leave something unplugged I get a light.

Any one have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the mobo to rule it in or out?
should i be considering any type of failure on the CPU or would i not even be able to still run the computer if it failed some how?

I'd take out a stick of RAM to see if the prob persists. Then try the other one. Blow out the slots with compressed air. Run memtest86 overnight to stress it.

Compare the install you did with the tips for a perfect install found in Clean Reinstall
which are the same for retail. If it varied much - especially the handling of drivers - then I'd redo it from those steps to get a baseline perfect install which is a specialty of these forums we've helped tens of thousands of users do.

Well on the 2nd stick of ram the boot time still seemed like it took a while, however once it was loaded i reloaded aero and the computer seems to be running fast again no lag problems games are working at full speed now as well. So i guess perhaps need to order new ram. what could have been the cause you think just a bad stick?

UPDATE: Restarted computer and now its back to the same lag. didnt change the ram still same stick left out

do i need to look at the motherboard having problems with the ram then? ive gone through the sticks of ram leaving each one out once and still am getting the lag. did nothing different the one time it fixed it self. same stick of ram now still causing the lag

Did you stress test the RAM overnight, use the steps in the the tutorial to also test the slots? RAM - Test with Memtest86+

I also asked you how close you came to getting a perfect baseline install. Without this we cannot be certain this is a hardware problem. If in doubt I would do it over following closely the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are the same for retail.

Yeah I let it run for about 10 hours. It passed the entire test again with no errors. it was half way done with another run of the test. So far ive done the full memtest86+ 3 times all without errors. The install of the OS is about as clean as I can get following the guide you showed me. (Installed each time off a full wipe with parted magic, installed from the oem disc, only required drivers from the oem mobo disc were installed noting else to test and problem persisted)

Ive tried multiple different ram configurations to try and replicate fixing the problems, but have not been able to. I got in touch with ASUS today regarding the mother board they could not give any further suggestions other than things already done aside from doing an RMA on the board.

With the ram passing three full tests and testing boot up with each stick individually i think the ram is not the culprit.

I also tried changing the bios setting off auto and trying 1333 and 1600 freq for the ram as well as changing the voltage to flat 1.5 from auto and changing the timings off auto to 9-9-9-24. all did not fix the problem.

This would leave the mobo and the memory controller on the cpu untested. I dont know of any tests to directly test the memory controller on the cpu, but i found some threads after googling that lead to similar i7 memory controller defects. DO you know of any test for the cpu memory controller?

Im getting close to just doing the RMA on the board to rule it in/out since its covered under warranty and they said they would replace it.

Well if you installed drivers from the OEM disk then the installation is already suspect since that disk is outdated almost as soon as its pressed, and Win7 is a driver-complete OS which provides its own drivers that it wants in the installer and during all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates after install, after being sure to enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3).

If you're saying that you only provided those drivers missing after all Updates were done (as it says clearly in the tutorial) then I'd compare them to the latest on the OEM Support Downloads webpage where the tutorial also says to get those. It says nothing about an OEM driver disk which is never current.

The only drivers I installed from the disc were usb to use mouse/keyboard and the network driver to connect to internet to download all the updates. All other drivers ive downloaded from the internet to get the latest driver. I went thru afterwards and installed the updated ones from asus for usb, but i doubt thats an issue considering those were the same driver the computer worked on for almost 2 years with no issues.

I just noticed i have been using memtest86 instead of memtest86+ the had the names written on discs wrong. Im re running the memtest86+ version 4.20 now and its been going for about hr and half now will let it run all night again.

my motherboard came in yesterday and I re installed everything all is well. So it ended up being the motherboard. Asus stated they repaired the board.
