Slow boot every 24 hours - network issue?

Hi guys

This is not a major issue but if I don't switch my laptop on for over a day my boot slows by about 10-15 secs as it lingers on the welcome screen when logging in. If I switch on again within say a couple hours then no delay, only a second at most. I have my laptop connected via wired switch. I thought it may of been down to the mapped NAS drives I had so I created a batch file to map these and place in the start up folder - unfortunately this did not work. But could a mapped drive even though I hav done this still be the culprit? I can't eradicate the mapping as I need these.

Or could it be down to my router? In as much as it takes longer for my laptop to establish connection to the LAN after 24 hours. I do have both wired and also the wifi active on the laptop and static IP assigned via router interface for each adapter. I did try switching wifi off on the laptop but it made no difference for this problem.

Final thing, I noticed on all our machines at home that under wifi refreshing the network list is quicker than using ethernet. Ethernet takes 4 or 5 seconds to completely refresh whilst wifi is only couple of secs I would say. Seems strange and is clearly not specific to a laptop as thry all do it. File transfer speed under wired is much faster than wifi (as it should be), its just this network refresh that is slightly slower !

Hello Scotty some specs would be good mate and I can assume you have redone all the drivers/ I personally get them for the manufacturers sites the Windows check I am not keen on. Especially the network adaptors and router ones (that is why specs are good ).

Yes sorry, all checks out fine on the scan. Wifi and ethernet adapter all updated (centrino 6300 and atheros respectively). Router is netgear wndr 3700 v2 with latest 'stable' firmware running ( there are later firmwares but these are bugged as per huge forum complaints over at netgear site).

I was sure the mapped drives (or one of them) caused the intermittent longer boot which only manifests itself if laptop has been off for approx over a day. Which is why instead of mapping them with 'reconnect at login' I created the batch file with 'persistent:no' parameter. This bat file I have placed under the start up folder so they then map after logging in. But this did not help but I still wonder if the mapping process is too entwined/near login start up so as to cause the slight delay.

Then I though perhaps router issue in that after 24 hours it takes longer to issue my laptop with its IP address ( which is statically assigned under the router web admin). I don't know much of leases etc but maybe something happens after a day? Although there is nothing in the routers admin that I can see which would link to this or can be tweaked.

It's just odd, I know an extra 10 secs on what is usually a 30 sec boot is nothing much and I should just be a little patient. But it is baffling and frustrating especially given the huge cost of the Alienware laptop!

Another point worth bringing is my router is set to assign different static IP to both wired and wifi adapter. I used to sometimes get slight delay over identifying network which was fixed by setting same static IP on wifi adapter within windows. Trouble is I can't do this to the wired adapter too as windows doesn't allow the two adapters to do same. So wired adapter is still set to obtain automatically. I don't recall having this delay to boot after about a day before until a few weeks ago but could this setup be responsible. I like having both adapters available but maybe disabling one of them and testing might be prudent
