Every time when I turn on the computer or after a restart, it takes a while for the system to get going as usual, but the problem is no matter how much time passes, for the first time I open any browser after the computer was turned on, it takes too long to even the browser's window. This happens for every browser. I have tried emptying the cache to no avail, disabling different add-on and the problem still persists. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the delay, I run the System File Checker and the diskcheck command and all system files and local discs showed no corruption. Also the malware scans below showed nothing more than some tracking cookies, which I don't believe are the source of the problem.

How long is too long? Can you give us the time in seconds or minutes?

It is normal for the first start of any app to take longer the first time. How long it takes depends on several things. Like ICit2lol said, we need to see your System Specs.

Thanks, it seems that too many processes where loading at boot and that slowed it down. Also a re-install of Mozilla and Chrome helped. Thanks a bunch.

Well mate I would and it is only my way of doing that boot list is to untick everything leaving only the Avast in the boot and do as Layback Bear has done in services.

I would also do another sweep with those scanners I referred to before plus a TDSS rookit run.

Free Malware Removal Tools < scroll down to the TDSS Killer and run it then delete all the stuff they find. Just how much torrent stuff have you used??

First utorrent is one of the best ways known to man kind to get infected.
In my opinion all those things you have checked I wouldn't have checked except the security. Their is no reason for them to start at boot. They should only run when you request them to by ticking on them.

As mentioned in post#2 LB but I don't think they have been run and I am wondering if the Avast which is spelt rather funny in the start list is up to it or disabled??

Your post of your Services can be help full to you. You can always use it as a reference to go back to.
You have seen my Services so you know what my choices are. That is the key thing; you have to choose but if you don't like the changes you can always go back the way it was.
I personally don't like auto update anything and their is no way in hell a torrent will ever be on my computers. Of course then you have to check for all those updates manually which I do often.
At this point you have to check out (research) each non Microsoft Service and make a choice whether you want them checked and/or running at boot. The method I use was printing out a picture of the non Microsoft Services then made changes and kept notes of what I did on the picture. Check it out for awhile and then chose.

Did you take a good slow read through this as ICit2lol post #11 recommended?

For some odd reason, if I start the browser from the desktop shortcut, it loads considerably faster to open the home page, the problem it seems is only with the taskbar shortcut. If I open the browser from the taskbar, it takes average 1 minute and a half, sometimes more and if I don't click it again to open a second browser window it takes even more, from the desktop shortcut it takes 15 to 20 seconds.
I've just been lucking in this thread hoping to see something that explains the statements above.

If you care to retest:
Set the browser to use a single home page of about:blank
If needed - set the computer not to sleep/hibernate due to inactivity
Restart the computer
If needed - log on to your account
Touch nothing for 20 or so minutes - maybe go eat a meal
Start the browser using the taskbar shortcut
Take note of the time that it takes before you see the browser window.

Repeat the steps above using the desktop shortcut*
...but don't eat another meal unless it is time to do so :-)

*This desktop shortcut should only start the browser, not take you to a website.

You should find the time between clicking on the shortcut and the time that the browser window appears to be the same no matter which shortcut you click on.

Anyway, once you follow all of the good advice that you have been given in this thread, you might consider putting a shortcut to the browser in your startup folder. That way, you can start the computer (maybe log on) and walk away. When you get back, the browser should be up and running. Or, you might want to look into putting the computer to sleep between uses.
