User Account Installation

Hi all,

I'm new here :D I have windows 7 enterprise, with accounts of both admin and normal user. The problem is i cannot install or run certain executable files as a normal user but when logging in as admin, i'm able to do so. I've changed the local group policy to always install with elevated privileges for both computer configuration and user configuration folders but the comp will still prompt for admin password in order to proceed. So, I tried to disable uac, but then it says that it needs administrator rights to install the software. Now, i cannot understand why even after i changed the local group policy, i still need to key in admin password in order to install software when logged as normal user. Is there other settings that are required? or do windows 7 allow normal user without admin right to install software? How do i elevate the right of normal user? Thanks!

Yes, while logged as normal user, windows will prompt for admin password. If i turn off uac, windows will not allow me to install the software. Any workarounds? I tried every thing i can, but windows still does not allow me to run/install software.

Have you tried adding the username to the Administrators group yet? Not making it an administrator outright in the user setup screen mind you.

No, but why does a normal user needs to be in administrators group to install a software? Can't an admin just elevate the normal user's right?

Yes, but we are troubleshooting and trying to see what works and what doesn't to the fullest extent.

Can you tell the settings needed for an admin to elevate normal user's right? Actually, there are many users who are using the computer, i can't add all of them to administrators group.

So on none of the normal user accounts, you cannot install software?

Unless the installer is programed not to require Administrative rights you are going to need to enter an Administrator's password.

How to program the installer so that it does not require admin right?

How to program the installer so that it does not require admin right?

Define it as not requiring permission in its manifest file and only using the User's profile directroy (C:\Users\[username]) and only the User's Registry. Google Chrome installs in this way, for example.
