Some Photoshop Advice needed!

Hello, Ive recently got my hands on Photoshop CC , Im looking for some useful sites with tutorials etc, also some resource sites, eg. Deviantart etc, cheers

Youtube is good site for video tutorials just enter something like "Photoshop CS6" as a search term and browse the videos for what you are interested in. Performing a Google search is also a excellent tool for finding tutorials of interest.

Google is also your friend for finding resources such as brushes, textures and gradients.

Yes there is a lot to learn. I learned GIMP, Inkscape, CorelDraw, Blender and Photoshop from YouTube. It is a great resource.

Just start by following along with some tutorials. Just play a bit of the tut and then repeat it in PS. That will get you used to how to work with it. This chap gives clear instructions. Blue Lightning TV - YouTube

I only now notice this thread but I'm more than happy to share what I know

Some good Youtube channels that I frequently visit and that offer a lot of great tutorials are:

• Blue Lightning TV
• Ch-Ch-Check It
• Evan Eckard
• PixelsToLife

Textures, brushes, gradients and such are best found in Google, but some handy (free) sites are:

• CGTextures
• Mayang's Textures
• TextureKing
• Free Stock Textures
• Brusheezy
• MyPhotoshopBrushes
  

And if you ever need any fonts, go to DaFont.
If you have an image and want to identify the font used, you can use WhatTheFont or IdentiFont.

Hi there.

I have a slightly different perspective on YOU TUBE -- It's fine for showing some examples AFTER you've already ORIGINALLY mastered the elements of Photoshop -- I'd look first for some online manual or Powerpoint tutorial or a cheap BOOK.

I find unfortunately more and more people are doing YOU TUBE videos -- IMO not a great tool for INITIALLY LEARNING as you often want to learn AT YOUR OWN SPEED - and be able to scroll backwards and forwards and make notes where appropriate. YOU TUBE as I said is probably an excellent vehicle for a TUTORIAL but not really for LEARNING.

There are plenty of cheap books also on Photoshop --your best bet is to buy one of those.

I completely agree with you Jimbo.

I got most of my experience from tinkering around and just messing with effects and layer styles. After I mastered all of those and knew what I was doing I started searching tutorials on how to accomplish certain things or effects. Starting with tutorials without knowing the basics will more than once lead to messing up and needing to watch the tut five or six times before understanding it. Especially the more advanced tuts, they constantly use shortcuts without telling you how they did them. If you don't know those shortcuts you're going to spend more time figuring that out than working on the actual effect/style.

I'd also invest in a good book. I only use PSE and find Scott Kelby's books really good. He certainly does CS6 books. With PSE you can download the manual instead of going online all the time - see if you can for CS6.
