Sometimes I cannot get website in IE. Get "Page can't be displayed"

A lot of times when I am in Internet Explorer (version 11) and click on a website link, I get an error message - (This page can't be displayed). I then click on "Fix connection problems."

Then I get another message (Windows Network Diagnostics) that says "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem. My options are 1. Explore additional options (that never works for me), 2. Close the troubleshooter.

I click on the 2nd option and then I get to the website link. This happens a lot.

I notice that the little monitor icon in the right side of my computer task bar shows that there is no internet access.

Does anybody have any idea of what I can do to fix this?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium/service pack 1
64-bit operating system
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz processor
7.97 GB of Installed memory (RAM)

You're loosing your internet connection. The same has been haunting me for the last several months but it started when I lost my wireless antenna in a storm. It can be caused by bad wiring (pinched wires or loose connections), a router going bad, the PC adaptor going bad, adaptor settings incorrect or miss-wiring. A full description of your network and equipment model numbers might help and whether any other PCs (if any) on your network are experiencing the same problem.

Also, have you recently installed a Brother printer on your network?

Well, no brother printer. I have HP. My husband is only other computer and he didn't have the problem and I recently changed him over to Firefox because he has Windows XP and that isn't supported any more.

I remember getting messages about DNS server, too, but not getting those any more.

I do have a laptop but hardly use it anymore since I am doing more online tutorials than hands on teaching.

I did get notice from Verizon about changing router to wpa2 (I have WEP), so maybe that's the problem??? We just got the new router in the mail yesterday and will hook it up today.

Maybe that annoying message that comes up saying that Windows Explorer is closing, etc., will go away then, too.

Thank you for your input and I'll see if new router helps. If so, I'll come back and mark solved.

I got the new router and that didn't make any difference. I am going to try CCleaner and see if that helps. Deleted temporary internet files and cookies so that should help. This is sooooooooooooooooooo annoying. Happening a lot, now. I'm not going to mark it solved because the issue isn't.

Sounds too much like a signal loss. Check all your connections and cables. Try swapping a cable or port with another PC. Make sure none of the cables are running next to electrical cords, battery backup systems, power strips or plug-in power supplies (Wall Warts/AC Adapters).

I see if one of our network guys can look in on this too.

Are you using wireless or Ethernet? Maybe I missed that part.

Carwiz, I have the same connections I have always had so not sure what to look for.

Britton30 I have the desktops hooked up with Ethernet cable. I have wireless for my laptop. Never had this kind of problem with Windows XP nor the "Windows Explorer is closing, etc." thing.

Checking the cables is a place to start, if they've been the same ones for a long time they can get a break in them, especially near the connectors. Easiest way would be to try a new/different cable.

You say you don't use the laptop much, but does it also not connect as well?

Twice you've said, "Windows Explorer is closing, etc.", do you mean Internet Explorer or in fact Windows Explorer is closing?

This is just the one PC that this is happening to? If so, try this (no harm if it does not fix it)

Let's flush the DNS cache and restore MS's Hosts file. Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.

Right click the .bat file and choose to Run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself. See if that helps.
