Sony vaio laptop drive not recognising discs anymore

Hiya, please help if you can. My son was mucking about on his Vaio Laptop windows 7 and did a terrible thing - he copied and pasted a script .vbs (pop out your dvd drive(?) I have no idea what that means, but it don't sound good, and now it is making a funny noise and wont play any discs. Any idea guys, would really appreciate the help. Many thanks.

Hi Elaine22, Welcome to the forums , Your best option at this point in time is to do a system restore http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html find a restore point prior to when your son messed around

You have no System Restore?


You have System Restore, but you have no restore points to a time prior to your son fooling around?

You have System Restore points prior to the time your son was fooling around, but they won't run to completion?

System Restore has in fact restored the PC to a time prior to your son fooling around, but the problem persists?

Hi Elaine, just found this pop out your friend’s CD or DVD Drive - Cool window hack ~ TricksNDTricks if this is the script your son used ,search the computer for it and remove the script, will keep searching for a solution for you

Inazasonic - thanks for your reply. What i meant by no joy, was that we tried a system restore and we had the same problem, it did not resolve the issue

You,re very welcome Elaine, You could always look in the startup menu and see if anything with a .vbs extention is running and remove it from there

Pepply do you think its a virus then? i had a look at the link it looks quite complicated for me, i hope i dont destroy the computer!!!!!

i am trying to understand what a .vbs is and why it has done this to our other laptop - is it an actual virus?
