Hello,

I did a complete new install of widows 7 ultimate on my daughters laptop.
She was running vista, she had lots of music on there, she burned it to cd's and we checked them on my xp machine and they were fine.

Now she has windows 7 and i put the disc in and it doesnt recognize the inserted CD. The drive is a Matshita BD-CMB UJ130AS. It has a working driver installed (device manager shows) Any other cd's that i put in work fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks
Kentucky

Hi! Kentucky, welcome to 7F :)

This is the same drive that burned the CD in question?

You may need to upgrade that driver even though it shows that it is working.
If it is a generic driver from Microsoft, do not go through Device Manager to update this driver, after the download just open the file, and follow the install instructions.
Remember to re-boot!

You can find it here, best source:
Sony eSupport - VGN-NS290J/S - Software Updates & Drivers
You will have to click on CD/DVD drives.

If you still had Vista on the HD during install, then your files may have all been placed in a windows.old folder in the root (C) drive.

Browse for them there now, copy contents of each into corresponding folders in explorer tree at right.

Thanks Greg........Steve

I tried updating the drive per your link i had ver 1.0 and now its version 1.02 or something like that.
Yes this is the same drive that installed windows 7 and yes it works on everyhitng from dvd's to cd's but it just doesnt recoginze any of the cd's she burned that had her music on them. In my xp laptop it recognizes the disc almost instantly and presto there's her music. I deleted the partitions where vista was.

Yes i did reboot and it found the drive and showed it took the new drivers.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for trying

Are you saying hook my xp laptop to the windows 7 laptop via a etherent cable and transfer the music that way?

You can create an ad-hoc network that way, or send them over the network wirelessly if you have wireless.

When you plug ethernet in, you'll see the network it sets up in Network and Sharing Center, but may need to click on Public network to change it to Home on each computer. It should then allow fast file transfer if you have sharing set up correctly and share the folders involved.
