Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and appreciate all of the great information on switching over to Windows 7.:D

I use Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 9d and Audacity and I can't find any information on their compatibility with Windows 7.

Anyone have any information on whether or not these programmes will work with Windows 7 or not?

Many thanks,

Hello Zidane24:

Many thanks for responding so quickly. It is good to know that Audacity will work in Windows 7. I can use it as a backup just in case my Sony Creative Sound Forge Audio 9 doesn't work.

There is no response from Sony Creative regarding the updating of Sound Forge Audio 9 except that they are promoting their new Sound Forge Pro 10 which is compatible with Windows 7. Except the price tag!

I have several old programmes that I hope will work in "compatibility mode" such as: Nero 6, Photoshop Elements 6 and Switch Sound File Converter.

Zidane, please clarify the availability of the "compatibility mode" in Windows 7, Home Premium Version. I haven't been able to get a clear answer on this subject. I gather that it may be confused with the "virtual mode" in Professional/Ultimate versions.

Truly appreciate the help,

:D

Actually they are two different things...

Compatibility mode allows you to run a program in an enviroment of an older OS. Some apps just won't run on a newer OS due to version mismatches, dll differences, etc (the possibilites are quite large)

Virtual mode included in 7 Professional and Ultimate allows you to run a fully functional Windows XP as a virtual OS inside of 7. This is useful for older apps that buisnessness (or home users;)) use that refuse to run in anything but a native XP enviroment

Hi Zidane:

Compatibility mode allows you to run a program in an enviroment of an older OS. Some apps just won't run on a newer OS due to version mismatches, dll differences, etc (the possibilites are quite large)

Therefore, Win7 Home Version does include the compatibility mode but not the vitual technology version.

I can assume my processor on my three year old Dell will work with the compatibility mode? Pentium D820 - Dual Core 2.8 GHz but would not work with the virtual technology on the Professional and Ultimate versions.

Thanks,
