Sound lag?

I have a sound lag when I turn on my computer. The logging in sound occurs late and the computer seems to need to 'catch up' until a few seconds later when it becomes normal...is this a common problem?

I'll probably need to eventually say what kind of sound card, etc, I have so I'll look that up and post it later. :)

it sounds like you may have a lot of programs loading in at start-up, which leads to a bit of a delay.

tap your windows key and type msconfig, and have a look at the startup tab.

yours will look different to mine, as you have different hardware and software installed.

many of the entries here can be disabled with no ill effects. you'll have to do some trial-and-error to see which ones you can disable. maybe we can give you some advice if you can give us a screenshot of your start-up tab.

Wow...yours is way, way, shorter than mine. I'll upload the two screenshots and maybe y'all could tell what isn't essential so I can shave time off the total startup time?

It's in two screenshots because you can't expand the MSCONFIG window.

That really looks like a probably cause. Holy cow  !
All the processes eat alot of memory at startup which makes the entire system lag. By Disabling the less essential process's at startup, it might also save you CPU life in future instead of burning your CPU out, and hammering your poor pc.

The more programs you install on your pc, the slower it starts up. Try also un-installing old, and unnecessary applications and software that you dont really need. :)

Not only will it free up hard drive space, but it will also end a few un-needed CPU eating apps! Only enable essential applications for startup, and see the difference after a while!

Also, to make matters a little easier for your pc, do a defrag at least once a month so to speed it up and defrag the drives. Even if it says it doesnt need to be defragged, do it on a perpetual basis.

A good app to get for helping optimize system performance is Ashampoo WinOptimizer.

Also make sure you update your antivirus often. There might be hidden applications running in the background that task manager might not see..

What, specifically, could I remove from startup to help? Some things I must keep, such as Avast Antivirus and Covenant Eyes, but other stuff could probably be removed.

you'll have to go through the list and check yourself to see if your software still works. you may have to do some research as to what the programs are - google is your friend.

the first thing in your list looks like a java updater. every time you start your computer, this program gets loaded and runs to see if there is a new update for java. do you particularly always need the very latest version of java? do you even use java at all? entry is safe to disable in my opinion.

gadwin print... - do you use it? can you use the snipping tool instead?

3rvx - a fancy volume knob - do you need it etc...

lightscribe - useful for burning images into special discs - does the software still work without the startup entry?

hpadvisor - what is that? some program put on your computer by hp. do you ever use it or know what it does? does your pc still work with it disabled?

only you can decide what you do or do not need running on your pc at every startup...
