I installed the driver and it just didn't help :/ I think my problem might be due to lack of RAM though, I only have 1 Gb, and if I'm not running any other programs, the sound is better.

I have the same problem with my desktop-pc at work. It has a Biostar k8m800 motherboard. Same poor sound quality. But this system has enough memory (2Gb). It doesn't matter if the CPU is heavily loaded or not, sound-quality always sucks. I tried a variety of different drivers, from the Realtek website till the Biostar-supportsite. Nothing seems to resolve the problem.

Hi Pixie. It's then most likely due to a CPU throttling feature in the bios. Disable the feature and test it out.

If that doesn't do it, then it's possible an actual bios update will fix it.

I have a question for that. Do i update the bios through the vista or xp driver download? I upgraded from xp and I have windows 7 now. Last time i tried updated the original xp bios and I froze my computer, had to reinstall. (this was all to fix my sound problems too)

Bios versions and updates are not related at all to the operating system you're running.

Some manufacturers however, require you to be running a certain OS to update from within Windows.

In all cases, if a dos utility is available as a method, updating bios is best done by booting to a floppy disk.

See manufacturer's specific instructions for your model of motherboard.

You can try again, only this time, close everything not needed for Windows to run. Everything - including antivirus and firewall. Use task manager to close things too, after normal way. Google about them if you aren't sure.

Then try the update.

ok i'll go for a second round i remember the first time i tried, it did tell me before the crash that my bios was out of date and that it was going to upgrade.

Hey I updated my Bios it was weird my computer shut down like the last time it was bricked. Except this time the computer started up normally and i checked and my bios is up to date. Still have sound problems but in addition to sound crackling it doesnt recognize my external speakers i just think its the fact that theres no windows 7 drivers for HP. The windows vista drivers dont work when i try installing the Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver it says "ERROR: could not find the media device for the specified driver" something along those lines, lol.

Go to device manager. Right click on your sound device. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste the results here.

I'll either find the latest Win7 driver for you or make you one that's meant for another system, that will work.

I can't say it will fix the problem, but at least you'll be using latest driver in any case, doing this.

In Internet Explorer only, go to this link.

The second and third ones down are the drivers. One is for x64 and the other is for x86. You'll have to see when downloading which is which. Get the other one if it's wrong.

Then install using device manager. Let us know how it goes.
