I run my on-board audio output to a RCA surround sound receiver. The receiver goes to standby if it goes for a while without getting any sound. If windows goes to sleep while it's in standby and i bring it back out, it says no speakers are plugged in even though I've turned the receiver back on. I have to physically unplug the cable from the back of the computer and plug it back in to get sound again.

Did you try to turn the receiver on after you resumed from sleep. It may get an interrupt then and recognize the receiver.
