Speakers/Headphones/Mic issue

Hi,
At the moment I have speakers plugged into the green port/audio jack and a headset plugged into the purple port/mic jack. I use TS3 a lot so what I do when I need to communicate, is I put some headphones into the speakers, and wrap the headset around my neck so I can use the mic.
This is getting really annoying and I have cords coming out of everywhere, but I can't buy a simple green/purple headset because then my speakers would be unplugged (constantly changing them is a problem because I bought a desk that limits my access to the back of the tower :|), and I switch between the two about ten times a day.
My goal would be to have a headset that I could maybe plug into a USB port or into some new speakers if the option is there, but I don't know if that's possible. Any help is appreciated.

Oh yes...usb headsets with mics are a plenty and can be found just about at any retail store you like. The beauty of those is the simple plug and play....no drivers to mess with.

There is also other simple way to do. You can buy audio splitter with 2-3 stereo audio socket (3,5mm) with 1 meter cable, you can have all speaker, amplifier, and headset plugged in permanently. It's preferable if you use headset with manual volume control.
But note that the headset speaker impedance (mostly 16 to 32 Ohm) will decrease the input supply to the ext speaker/amplifier. The external speaker will get louder if you decrease the headset volume.

This is probably my preferred option. How do I change the audio output when both the headset and the speakers are plugged in?

When plugging in the usb headset, it should by default become the primary output listening device and no changes are required.

Good question; I'm not sure...let me do a little digging and see what I can find out.
