Hello all,

I'm currently experiencing a rather unusual problem, which up to now I've never encountered before.

I play an on-line game (Eve Online), which has been working perfectly fine on my PC since I built it a few years ago.

During the past week, I've not been able to get the game to work i.e. it won't fully start whether I try and launch it using the launcher, or by directly clicking on the .exe file.

The .exe file is running in Task Manager, however, compared to when it works, It's hardly using any CPU or RAM, perhaps suggesting It's not loading the necesarry files to fully run.

All of my other programs are working fine, which normally could suggest the problem is related to the game itself, however, no one else is reporting the same type of problem and the game developers are unable to find any problems after reviewing numerous log files.

I'm desperately trying not to have to re-install the OS (Windows 7 Pro x64) and since the problem began, I've been researching and trying numerous suggested solutions, however, nothing has worked.

Id very much appreciated some help and suggestions of what I can try next to try and resolve the problem.

Thank you!

First and foremost, retrace your steps. What software or updates have you perhaps installed prior to this issue happening? Your first approach is to reinstall the OS, but I would just reinstall the game first. But that may not even work and perhaps you already tried that.

Thank you for your replies!

Yes, I've followed the steps suggested in the thread (thank you for the link!), however, it hasn't made any difference.

The problem started after I updated the game with the latest patch, so you would think it was a patch related issue, however, no one else has reported a similar happening and the game developers can't see any reason why the latest patch would have caused what's happening on my PC to happen.

Basically, I was playing during the evening, left the computer on over night and loaded up the game the following morning, updated the game files and since then it won't work.

I've re-installed the game multiple times, even deleting all the files under my user profile and deleting all the registry entries manually.

I've also created a new user profile and the problem persists there too.

On two of my other computers (running the same OS), the game is working fine.

It's as if the files the .exe calls when opening aren't responding, however, there are no error logs whatsoever (game logs, event viewer logs, etc).

If problem has only occurred since the game patch update, then you may be able to recover the computer by using System Restore.

If you right click the .exe and select properties | Compatibility, check off run as Admin. and see if that helps.

Yes, I did actually perform a System Restore, but the problem was still there after the game updated itself.

Unfortunately It's one of those games that will only run under the latest patch ...

I also tried running the .exe as Admin, but it made no difference.

My primary storage medium is a PCI-E SSD, which Is where I have my OS and the game installed.

Could the type of drive I'm using in any way be a possible cause for why It's not working?

Thanks again!

I wouldn't think having the drive on a PCIe bus would cause the issue. If you went through all the steps here, then I'm not sure what is going on.

Process Explorer might shed some light on the issue, but you need to understand what is going on.

If for nothing else, installing on a HDD that is directly connected to the SATA bus could rule out a potential PCIe issue.

Thank you for your reply, F22 Simpilot.

This morning, I cloned my PCI-E drive to one of the standard SATA hard-drives and unfortunately the problem is still present.

I've installed Process Explorer and when launching the .exe, there doesn't seem to be any other process activity.

When looking in the properties of the .exe in Process Explorer (under Disk and Network), there doesn't seem to be any disk activity.

I've also carried out a full virus scan, malware scan and rootkit scan and they all reported that the system is clean.

Using Process Explorer, I've exported a full .dmp file and uploaded it here:

Gofile

Would someone be kind enough to have a look at the file and see if there is anything obvious as to why the .exe won't open?

If I can upload anything else that might be helpful, I'm more than happy to do so.

Thank you in advance for all your help!

I'm not able to read the dump file created by Process Explorer because I need a tool from Microsoft and in order for me to get it I need some stupid Microsoft account which I'm not doing.

A gaming friend of mine informs me that there is an independent patcher you run for this game. Is that true? If so, you may want to run that as Admin. Or uninstall the game, reinstall and run everything as Admin.

Since you indicate two other computers run the game fine without issue, it seems indicative that there's something going on in your OS environment after the update that is stalling out the .EXE from executing.

If you reinstall the game again, try to install to the root of C drive instead of the programs folder. The programs folder (two if you use a 64 bit OS) is protected by the OS and funky things can happen. So your path may be C:\EveOnline
