[Solved] Specific Security Solution For Me

Hi,

I was wondering what your recommendations are regarding my specific needs for a security solution.

My current setup is Avira AntiVir Personal for my real-time and on-demand virus and spyware protection. Windows' default firewall and my Linksys router's firewall.

I did not have any threats for more than one year now but I'm growing tired of Avira. I like its options and its user interface but it can get kind of sluggish at times. Sometimes, I would have to update manually because it won't connect to the update server.

I have read that a combination of the three is the most popular here in SevenForums.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials
  • MalwareBytes
  • Windows Firewall/Hardware Firewall
I have a couple of inquiries regarding this setup before trying it. I would also like to hear recommendations that would suite me better in certain situations.

My Questions

  1. Does Microsoft Security Essentials work real-time in the background?
  2. Does Microsoft Security Essentials work as a anti-spyware software as well? (Windows 7 requires Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware)
  3. Does Microsoft Security Essentials allow exclusions for real-time scanning and on-demand scanning? Is it limited to folders or files?
Basically those are all my inquiries. I'd be glad if you can answer them. Thanks! :D

Edit - Solved

Thanks for the information mate. I have read those threads prior to posting this thread. I believe that's all I need to start testing this combination of security software out. Rep added mate.

I'd like to know exactly what you mean by "limited to folders or files" to make sure you get the exact information you need.

I think it means if he can add files, folders are both in the exclusions list. Which yes he can.

For me, it's simply a matter of being careful what site I open and what I download and from where. I have enabled the firewall on my router to which 4 PC/laptops are connected (on average). Kaspersky antivirus on all of them. Been virus/malware free for the past 3 years. :)
