Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could help me out with a sound problem please.
The problem is when I play a DVD, CD or even the intro music on the Media Centre, the sound is spluttering, being a little choppy and making an abnormal sound.
MP3's play perfect and I can even rip a CD into MP3 format and that plays perfect, but playing the CD in it's own format has the above problem.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and the Creative X-FI Xtreme sound card with the latest driver update 1.04.0090.
Many thanks for any help,
Phil.

Hello Phil,

I finally mustered the courage to take a shot at this, but what CD drive do you have, and how old is it? Do you think it takes a long time to rip?

This is just a guess, but if the drive is dirty or otherwise damaged, or just very old and slow, that might cause the issue.

Do you have another computer you could try the drive in? Likewise, do you have another drive you can try in your machine?

Here's another idea: Have you tried playing the CD in Windows Media Player, or any program other than Media Center?

Hi Jonathan,

Many thanks for your interest in this one.
Unfortunately, i only have the one computer system which was only purchased about two months ago, so both drives are brand new and they are the TSST corp CDDVDW SH-S223B ATA.
I don't think that the problem is in the drives as i get the spluttering sound when activating the Media Centre, the intro music that plays has the problem.
Cheers Jonathan and all the best,
Phil.

Hi Jonathan,

I have managed to sort out the problem with my sound.
I use Tuneup Utilities 2010 and when you go into the Turbo section, you can enable - "Ensure optimal performance regardless of power consumption".
So I enabled it and i now have an excellent sound.
So the problem must have been a power starvation.
Many thanks for coming back to me and all the best.
Cheers,
Phil.

Wow, thanks. That does not sound good, though. If you're power supply is not enough, you will see other problems later on, and they can be very difficult to diagnose.

What power supply do you have?

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your reply and because of your comments, i went down and had a chat with the engineer who built my computer and he says that there will be no problems at all with what i am doing.
But I would like to say thanks for coming back to me, that's great!
All the best,
Phil.
