Solved SSD Dead?

So I decide to do some cable management and use better cables while rear mounting my ssd. I switch out the cables,rear mount the ssd, then boot to test and the ssd is no longer seen by the bios. I tried 3 different sata connectors and 3 different power connectors....still no ssd detected. I'm confused it was just working fine. Any ideas?

Just a suggestion. Are you able to test the SSD in another computer to see if it is recognised there?

Yes, it is not recognized in another computer too. I just find it hard to believe it died like that.

It sounds very strange indeed.

You may need to update the Firmware, there is hope

If you use the Linux bootable tools to update the firmware then yes, 
it will update the firmware on all OCZ drives; 
but if you use the OCZ Toolbox then it will only update the drive you select

Dave, thanks for helping. Mine is a crucial M4, will that work? I have unplugged and switched the the data and power cable in 2 computers, still not there.

It certainly sounds dead but it's mighty strange how it would judt give up like that.

No! My point was that a Firmware update may fix the issue.

I shouldn't have posted the Linux bit really as that method wont work..........

However this may make amends, it is a guide for updating Crucial M4 from USB using SysLinux :

Or not, as you need to get the drive recognised for this to work , try unpugging the power from the SSD replugging and reboot.

If you can get the Firmware updated...somehow...It may fix.

That IS weird. Were you noticing any slowdowns or anything of that sort before doing this cable management?
When you give it power for a little bit does it get mildly warm or anything to indicate its on?

This is irrelevant but this is exactly why I am staying away from SSD's. I just can't trust them yet.

The same thing, it doesn't see it. Tried with different cables in two computers. Guess it's time for a RMA

If you Google "crucial M4 not seen by system" you'll get 8.5 million hits in .29 seconds...not a good sign. Apparently the M4 has had this issue for some time. RMA time.

Just googled it and saw that. Saw in the crucial forums saying to power cycle it. I will try that tonight when I get home

It worked, I followed the direction here

I thought after clearing my cmos, and trying different cables and then it not working on a second computer it was toast. Then after reading
madcratebuilder's post I googled it and found these steps to power cycle. it worked perfected every thing is still intact .

Here are the steps I used:

A sudden power loss is most common cause for a system to fail to recognize an SSD. In most cases, your SSD can be returned to normal operating condition by completing a power cycle, a process that will take approximately one hour.

We recommend you perform this procedure on a desktop computer because it allows you to only connect the SATA power connection, which improves the odds of the power cycle being successful. However, a USB enclosure with an external power source will also work. Apple and Windows desktop users follow the same steps.

1. Once you have the drive connected and sitting idle, simply power on the computer and wait for 20 minutes. We recommend that you don't use the computer during this process.

2. Power the computer down and disconnect the drive from the power connector for 30 seconds.

3. Reconnect the drive, and repeat steps 1 and 2 one more time.

4. Reconnect the drive normally, and boot the computer to your operating system.
