SSD on fairly old system

I have a reasonably old PC - Dell Studio 540 with quad core Q8200, 4 gigs of RAM and WD 640gig HDD - is it worth putting an SSD (thinking Samsung 830 256gig) in there? Thinking speed and stability.

Also if it is, Norton Ghost that bad boy or clean install?

It's as worthwhile on that PC as on any other. And you could certainly move the SSD to a new PC when you upgrade.

Samsung is a good choice.

Whether you will be highly impressed is another question.

You can try a clone or image to get stuff onto the SSD. Should work. Might not.

Paragon makes a 20 dollar app (Paragon Migrate) that is highly reliable.

When faced with the same situation, I did a clean install---rather than deal with the possibility that a clone or image might not work.

always go with a clean install, the few times i've used cloning to an ssd from a mechanical drive has either bricked the ssd for some unknown reason(7 ssd's returned to manufacters from my work place and counting) or caused massive loss in expected life span 14% drop every time the software was used, as well as not cloning properly either.

Question: Cloning from HDD to SSD give more problems than cloning from HDD to another HDD?

I never had any problems with cloning/imaging systems from a HDD to a SSD. And I have done that at least a dozen times.

I have done it the traditional way and with the use of the Paragon Migration Tool.

yeah i've had it work more than a few times as well, but more often than not i've had issues or come across issues after the migration.

i still don't recommend using cloning software when installing to an ssd.
