SEE POST #7 for new question

Hi I just downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium, and I tried to play Starcraft but it won't let me. When I try and play it the colors are all messed up. I know there have been threads about this before, but I have tried most of those solutions and they did not work. Just to let you guys know I have Starcraft as an .iso file and i virtually mount it via daemon tools. So, can anyone help me? I'm dissapointed in Windows 7, that I have this problem. I never had this problem on XP or Vista... :(

edit: just figured it out, set it to run in 256 colors and run in 640x480 resolution. (in the compatibility tab)

i didnt run it in XP or Vista or 98. left that part unchecked

it runs fine now. except the only thing is when i alt+tab i get the weird colors again, and then i have to turn it off and restart Starcraft, and the colors arent there...

how come I only had this problem on windows 7, I never had this problem in vista..

Its probably your drivers for your graphics card and monitor.
Find out what they are and go to the maufactors site and look for your drivers there,if you have problems finding or installing them download everest home edition
Download Everest Home Edition 2.20 - Everest Home Edition - a freeware system information, system diagnostics and benchmarking solution - Softpedia

This should tell you what GFX card you have along with what monitor.
Then come back and post what they are and we will do our best to find them.

*If everest does not find the graphics card or intergrated graphics:
If its a desktop, turn off the pc and remove power cable's,take out the graphics card and it should say what make and model it is.
If its intergrated into the motherboard go to your manufactor's site and look for your system and look for systems specs on it,it should tell you.

And the reason you didnt have this problem with Vista is that more than likely your pc/laptop came pre installed with Vista,so it was done for you:)

Your Video driver as per your system spec

yeah my PC did come with vista home premium 32 bit. lol I kind of got it to work, the only thing is when i alt+tab out of starcraft and then alt+tab back in I get these strange colors, and I cant get them out, they only go away when i enter a game, but once i go back into a channel (after a game) they come right back. I have to exit it out of starcraft completely and then start it up again for it to return to normal colors. any ideas?

by the way I know what graphics card I have its the 8800 GT, I just installed the new windows 7 drivers for it but I still have the same problem.

after I alt+tab out of the game my colors are all messed up, how do I fix this?

Bump, I recently have re-formated my HD and installed windows 7 again, and now when i try to virtually mount starcraft and install it, it lags a lot! just to get to the starcraft installation screen, it took me about 5minutes of waiting. The screen would sometimes switch from "windows aero mode" to windows classic mode" and sometimes it would just turn into a black screen, and then back to regular. I finally did install SC, but then when I try to play it will be so slow to load that it either freezes on me, or I have to wait more than 10min, with freezes inbetween my waiting time. There has to be some kind of solution to this, because before it use to at least be possible to play starcraft on windows 7 but now it seems literally impossible

any idea whats going on? I've installed the latest graphics card drivers, but maybe I missed something when I was re-installing drivers, etc onto my newly reformated HD?

Why are you virtually mounting a image instead of installing the game normally?

Are you able to log into your battlenet account or are you completely locked out?

idk, I get the same problem when I try to play the game when i put the CD in the CD-Rom drive.

I am able to log into my battle.net account but it takes me about 10-15min to get to that screen, freezing, black screens occur throughout that period.

After I get to the screen where it says single player or multi player, There is no more lag and no freezing or black screen as at all. It just getting to that screen in the first place is the problem.

I have read some stuff about starcraft acting really bad when a active antivirus is on. To reduce culprits I would try turning off absolutely everything extra before trying to run the game.
My system specs aren't that impressive but this particular game runs and loads really fast for me, and I'm on win7 x64 myself.

The last thing I would suggest is finding the program executable and setting it for xp compatibility mode.

HOLY SH******TT U ARE A GENIUS. I TURNED OFF AVAST! anti-virus program and then ran starcraft and it ran perfectly fine!!!!!! (except for those strange colors, but i can deal with that) THANK YOU so much!!!! what I dont understand is what in avast! is making all this lagging occur? It must have been some new update or something because I've had avast! for quick some time, and never had a problem before I did this reformat of my HD. any suggestions if I can tell avast! to somehow by-pass starcraft? and if not what other anti-virus program should i switch to?

once again thank you so much i appreciate it!!!!!!!!

With windows 7 windows security essentials and a back up scanner is really all you need. You can dump avast. ...that's just my personal opinion mind you.
If you are a gamer reducing extra processes should be at the top of your list whenever you run into a performance problem though.

I just uninstalled my SC on my Visa and installed it on my new computer windows 7 and for some reason when I go into the game I cant see latency bars next to the games, Its frustrating because I can't tell which games have red bars next to them and which ones are green (the games I can join)...I have called battle net and it doesn't seem to be them, just wondering if anyone has any ideas...I know its my computer ( I guess windows 7) because I have tried installing it back onto a visa, and xp computer and it works there, and also I tried installing my husbands copy and key and it doesn't work on my computer....also I have installed the latest patch on different computers and it works again on xp or vista....any ideas???
