Start menu Aero Theme Color Change

This is the set of images that need editing to replace the big white space in S.M. (editing main aero theme)
Is for the Aero not Basic (for basic are the same pic. but different numbers)
Replace only the white area not the transparent edges!!!
1-the main white
2-all programs
3-separators
4-search area

How do I put my picture in 806,807,818? Do I fit my picture for that part of the startmenu? Do I put different parts of the picture in each (806,807,818)? John

Don't know ,
I just replaced the color .
But depends of the picture it will be stretched.
U can experiment but take a backup of original images first.

hi every body i am new in this site forums

but i read what all of you wrote and i feel i am from different planet

can any body show me with graphical tips if possible how to do this step by step

i wish to change the white space in the start menu

First make a backup of the aero.msstyles file!!!
What U need is :
1. Restorator - for extracting/importing files in to aero.msstyles
2. Some graphical software - that can edit png files.
3. XVI32 - Hex editor for variant/normal color

1,2 are needed and 3 is optional because most of the colors are in png pictures.

When U have all that is needed
then copy aero.msstyles to some place easy for work/find
-start restorator
-open aero.msstyles (look the left side)
-find IMAGE and select it
-all basic and aero are in 508.png - 1108.png (picture 971.png is under STREAM)
In the earlier posts U can find the picture numbers for the start menu.
U need to edit only the white color on the pictures if U wish to replace only that.
Or U can download this pdf with some info what number is what picture (7600 win7 x64)

but it didn't work

i have Restorator ,Graphic editor and Neo hex editor

but unfortunatly the 971 specially in folder called stream not images and it is totally not frame and white background

i have also another proposal in this link u may see it

but also the white space in the file 812.png is tooo slim hardy to fit any thing there

by the way i tried both ways 1-you were talking about 2- and the link that i send u it looks like i need miracle to change or add photo

cause windows straight away change to window classic theme when i paste the file instead the original and after restart it never turn too any aero shape just stick to classic theme

i guess we need third party program doing such thing cause i saw a theme (god of war III) with the graphics on the start menu i think i need million year to learn how to do it unless there is third party designing program

one more question i am sorry i know i am dump

do u know the size of the pic 9pixel)in the start menu background right side how much it should be?
and the same to the all program background pic size?

first stylebuilder and modification with restorator are two separate things
or is done with one or is done with other.
Some pictures are stretchable and some not (but tiled)
So when changing sizes U must experiment (if win not show theme like it should some thing is wrong).

Example is possible to re size pic 781.png (to max 261x244)
it 's the basic top left or the pic with the big white.
Now is possible to put some pic in there.
The important part is to not disturb the old borders of the theme pic if U not changing the entire look of basic or aero.
Aero is a little difficult and be careful with transparency on borders.

Don't know exactly what pic is for all programs because I transfered programs on the right side via registry and disable it on gpedit.msc
but is there think 771.png basic 261x30

If U wish here's two my themes modified aero :

first is normal with changed most of the white backgrounds
Basic&Aero.rar
the other is the same but taskbar bottom is 1920x46 in size
Basic&Aero_1920x1200.rar

U can change it if U wish.
Only thing is U should select classic theme before replacing aero (uac disabled) or if write protected use the task manager way.
End task all explorer.exe and through new/open/browse (all*.*) copy paste the theme in its place.

thanks my friend that is much beyond me i am sales manager not designer you are professional and i guess my limit stops with the left white back ground it just i wished to change the all programs too and i changed the right one it was awful i attached it but my limits is the left background and if u knew the all programs png file inform me

if my photo is dark as u see the font remain black how to do it lighter in the left side of the start menu

I do not know if I can help I do not have Restorator but I have Windows Style Builder
& the #s for the all program is # 806 & 807 for extended & the button for all programs is # 756

God work I see U modding a aero theme.
So U basically need to replace 3 more pictures.
804 - Aero startmenu (shutdown btn background).png
806 - Aero startmenu (left side all programs background).png
813 - Aero startmenu (left bottom background Search).png
And yes U can do the left side lighter or change left side colors.

many many thanks specially six9six thanks every body too now the window has nice look when i work on my PC.

of course forgive me i am still beginner so all what i changed is the orbs, wallpaper, startmenu, folders background, icons and logon background
