Hello there,

I've got a Sony Vaio vgn-fw51mf: windows 7 oem 64 bit, duo p8700 processors, 6gb of ram

I've had the machine for about 8 months and it's always had occasional recovery issues - "did not shut down properly, attempting to repair" which always ended having to restore to an earlier time" when it worked. It's also always had occasional freezes (every month or two) but these have been less frequent. The start up/shut down issue has become more frequent as time has gone on.

So i recently bought an external hard drive, copied everything and did a full restore thinking this might help. It didn't seem to make any difference and now i'm getting BSOD's as well but only once i've pressed shutdown or hibernate. Neither issue is everytime but certainly every three or four shutdowns.

I'm no longer the computer wiz i was (ah my 286-20) and i really need help. i use traktor to DJ and so i need more stability (plus it's annoying to lose data when the restore is neccesary).

I've uploaded the requested reports from the bsod posting guide.

regards

Tim

Please remove McAfee with this tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Replace it with MSE: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Your Intel wireless drivers are also blamed. They are outdated, so be sure to update them to the latest version.

Hello there,

Thank you very much for your response. It's really very much appreciated.

I've swapped my security software as per your instruction but when i tried to update my wifi driver automatically, windows said it was up to date. So I went to Intels website, where there are indeed newer versions of the driver, but their downloader software wouldn't work and the manual version of the driver that i downloaded doesn't come with any kind of exe installer. As a non-tech person I could really use a bit of help as i'm a litlle scared of losing internet, and therefore access to the forum cavalry, if i just charge in and start changing things myself.

REgards,

Tim
