Startup black screen diagnose please...

My Sony vaio no longer boots up correctly after a blue screen restart.

When turning on I get a vaio BIOS screen as then cmd prompt tick at top left corner as usual.
But after this I only get a black screen - literally nothing, no logon screen, no mouse.

Also after leaving it for about 5 mins I get a repeat of BIOS screen then black again

It seems pretty chronic, ill see a repair shop guy but so I don't get over charged some thoughts please.
