Startup repair info while "windows is loading files"

I have an Acer Aspire 5750-6677. I3-2310m. It has been performing the startup repair for over a day. It's now, finally (I think), saying "windows is loading files". It has been doing this for HOURS! Can I simply turn it off and attempt a different method or will that make it worse? BTW: it came with zero discs of any kind when I purchased it new in July 2011. I appreciate any time you are able to give. This is my work comp too and I can't lose the info that's on it.

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot which disinfect then attempt to repair system files to start Win7.

If these fail the steps work up to copying out your files to run Factory Recovery or Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Thank you. Very much. Will do. Should I wait until the "windows is loading files" process is completed? The progress bar is maybe 15% finished after 6 hours or more.

I wouldn't but it is up to you.

I would also test hardware to get that out of the way. See note at top of tutorial.

After over 48 hrs I decided to force a shutdown. It took 3hrs to fully produce the Advanced Option screen. I'm able to arrow to the Safe Mode but no farther and I'm unable to select an option. It seems to like to beep at me.

I'd copy out my files and then test the hardware first as given in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

Next reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Then work through the steps in tutorial.
