Hi everyone hoping you can help me out.
I have just formatted an old IDE drive connected to my computer - and when i restarted I recieved an error: "Boot MGR is missing" press CTRL ALT DEL to restart.

Obviously i forgot that when i installed Windows XP around 6 months ago that the boot manager was on the drive i just formatted and therefore have deleted the boot manager.
Consequently i cannot boot into my newly installed windows 7 or windows XP.

My next move was to put my windows 7 disk in the drive and use the repair utility. However my problem lies when i come to the menu: "Select an operating system that you want to repair" - I have neither windows XP or windows 7 available to select i.e. there are no options. Despite this, when use the option "if your operating system isn't listed, click load drivers" - all of my hard drives are then listed.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

p.s i tried the XP recovery utility also - but when i select which the system to repair - it asks for an administrators password - which it keeps claiming is incorrect when i enter it but i swear it not. weird.

Thanks

Mark WIn7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) Active, boot the WIn7 DVD System Recovery Options or System Repair Disk, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots.

To Mark Partition Active press Shift F10 at first screen when booting DVD or Repair CD, or choose Command Line from Repair Console's Recov Tools list, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (confirm from list this is WIn7 HD #)
LIST PARTITION
SELECT PARTITION # (replace # with WIn7 part #)
ACTIVE
EXIT

Now return to Recov Tools list to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times with reboots to write MBR to Win7.

If this fails everything possible that can be done is here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

Anoher prob

Okay. Now the prob is solved. Back to my windows all ready. I tried to created a system repairing disc from my windows. But it was error. Its said parameter error or something. Any idea how come its error.
And then the windows used to be slow operation. But becusse that i have a lot of stuff inside. But i all ready removed some unneed programs from windows and its still the same. Is there anyways to make my windows run faster? I mean at least not that slow. I also got the recovery disc from the company i purchased last time. Think about want to return to them. I even didnt open it. Coz the windows prob had solve. But i do think that i need the installation disc for my windows 7. Its a windows 7 home premium 64 bit pre installed. Do u know where i can download that. The installation disc. Not the recovery disc.... Thanks again....

Yeah

The virus i got was this removed im not sure about outside links on this site. After removal of the virus with tdss killer, and unhackme, i rebooted, and the system would not go anywhere but system repair. No matter what boot option i chose, it would boot to system repair, system repair would not see ANY windows installations on my pc, could not repair from backup image, could not use a restore point, there were none according to system repair. I knew this was a lie because i backup every week. My friend does remote and phone support for best buy, he is starting to encounter this on a regular basis. so your thread should grow nicely as well as the praise you receive.

Now i understand. When u buy sony they will not give u any recoery disk for windows from the sony manufacture. Thats really bad. Other brand of notebook they wil give the recovery disk from the manufacture. Make easy for the user to repair or reformat... Hate sony tactics to earn money from customer...

Finally i choose the macbook... Lol

Save the retail Disks with Product Key to use on another computer or gift/sell to someone.

Use the Product Key on the Sony's COA sticker on bottom of laptop so that the $100+ value of the licensed Win7 OEM OS is not lost.

The linked Official ISO's also have SP1 and latest hotfix.

Oh really... How to sell that one. U mean like i can use the product key on my old sony laptop and sell it with the disk (that just only recover disk). I really pissed have to pay 70 dollar for the disk. And the store is really unresponbility. Im waiting that one for two weeks. First they said its all ready been shipped out. A week later i called them they said run of the stock. They just sent it yesterday. So mad...

Do u want buy my recovery disk? Lol

I thought you bought a retail Win7 full or Upgrade version which included a Product Key, not Recovery Disks.

Which manufacturer charged you $70 for a Recovery Disk? Or were you dealing with the store because the manufacturer's Tech Support free one-year warranty had run out?

Normally you can get Recovery Disks from manufacturer for not much more than shipping costs.

I called the manufacture
All ready. They said they are not provide the recovery disk or installation disk to the customer. That really bad. I ordered the recovery disk at geeks on site which i found on internet..,

Next time come here and we will help you reinstall with the Product Key on COA sticker using a WIn7 installer for the licensed version. It is a much cleaner install anyway than Recovery Disks which have all the bloatware.

Did they provide you with the correct disks for your model? What does it say on the disks?
