Glad you found what was causing the issue, these can be tricky to find.

I second Britton30's 'well done'.

Someone here or elsewhere mentioned nVIDIA's SHIELD support? I no nothing about SHIELD but it is why the NVIDIA Streamer Service gets installed and activated regardless of whether you use SHIELD hardware or not. In addition to this the nVIDIA driver module 'Experience' also installs an additional Device Manager nVIDIA 'Sound, video, and game controllers' device.

I suggested to nVIDIA that they should not bloat up the system with Services and drivers, etc. if hardware is not installed. Certainly this is the case with SHIELD and also the case with Stereoscopic 3D--neither of which I have.

Q: Would any of you gamers be more inclined to not install the Experience module or to install and use it but remember to uncheck the Streamer Service?

nVIDIA suggested and I confirm that one can disable the Shield related audio driver in Device Manager which will uncheck the nVIDIA Streamer Service and thus allow the Startup sound to play. This is actually how I have currently left the system since I am about ready to play Tomb Raider using Experience to optimize the game/video card settings.

Further discovered that you can check and run the Streamer Service with the nVidia virtual audio device left disabled and the Startup sound will still play.

This seems like pretty much the end of it now. Up to nVidia as to what if anything they might do about this apparent audio 'conflict'.
