Hello everybody.
I have been using steam for years and always lurking on the board, but now I need your help.
Today I finally made the step away from Vista (32-bit), I formatted and installed Windows 7 64-bit. With Vista Steam used to work perfectly but now I am having this problem...
I already looked around and I did not find a solution to my problem. I already excluded steam the antivirus software (nod32), erased the .blob file but nothing seems to do it.

Basically I install Steam, it all goes perfectly and in a nanosecond from clicking the icon, it goes to "updating steam" and stays at 0% forever, without budging.

I have been going crazy for the last 3 days, I tried everything short of formatting again.

I had put an exception in NOD32, like I had in vista, and I thought it was enough. So out of a whim, I tried turning it off, and behold, it started.
Now, sometimes it goes past updating and locks on "connecting to account". I have tried EVERYTHING. I uninstalled and reinstalled 10 times, erased the clientregistry.blob file many times, erased reg data, left it for an hour, completely disabled antivirus, windows firewall, I have a NAKED pc. I have no more clues, but I know I WANT it to work, it HAS to work.

I hope someone can help me and thank you already for reading this..
On the official steam forum there seems to be many with my problem, but no solutions... Please help.
Thank you!

sorry to hear of your ordeal.

this is a complete shot in the dark...

do you have any games on DISC that are made by valve, like the orange box? i would try to uninstall the current installation of steam with a 3rd party uninstaller, like revo uninstaller and uninstall it by way of the advanced feature. then reinstall the game via disc.

again, sorry... i have nothing more to suggest than that. hope that works, or something works.

best of luck!

I tried uninstalling with Ccleaner and reinstalling to a different directory.. nothing :(
I am exhausted.. I have loads of games on there, I had just preordered borderlands to have it immediately and now it's stuck there...
From my OLD pc at work and from a U3 usb stick it starts immediately...
I just need this to work...

try completely unninstalling your antivirus ?

I have steam working no problem on win7 home, so it has to be something specific to your software environment ?
