Stereo Mix is inconvenient

Hello.

Normally I hate codecs drivers etc. Feeling clustered and worrying about changes I can't revert.

When I go to Recording Devices, there's my Microphone Default, Line In Not Plugged, and Stereo Mix Ready.

The thing with my Stereo Mix is, it relies on my volume. On my last PC, I could have my volume muted and record Stereo Mix full blast.

But, here it relies on my volume and it records quieter, hard to explain. I always have to raise volume in GoldWave. And if not recorded loud enough, I will get slight feedback noise

EDIT: Also it says it's a Realtek High Definition Audio card. But I have no idea about HD, all I rock are two speakers and a woofer

Do you mean when it is muted you get no sound recorded, or is the second part a continuation of the muted state? IOW when muted it "records quieter" or not at all?

It almost sounds like some volume controls are not set up right under one of your devices. Especially in light of the feedback you loosely described. Although you sound like you understand what your doing, a screen capture of the levels for the Mic, mix and speakers being used may be helpful.

(was your "old" system windows XP?) - because I THINK the "windows" volume mixer/controls were different in that they separated the mixer into two separate consoles, one for recording (inputs) and one for playback (output). Now in newer versions of windows It sounds like the two have merged, at the windows volume mixer level anyway. So assuming it passes through that mixer first, THEN the device "mixer/settings/controls", this may be a tough one (hence the speedy response of everyone!).

Hoh damn.

Ya, slight feedback is there if volume is highish..

My old system was ze good ol' XP. Back then, I could have my sound muted, and Stereo Mix would record blasting. Absolutely perfect

But oh well..you can forget it
