thats funny i was just wondering about that for my soundcard. I have the newest Realtek soundcard driver but i went to my motherboard manufacturer site and they have one listed there also, both versions are around the same date but my MB manuf version is 105mb and Realtek's version is only 48 mb. I wonder what is in the extra 50 mb

I don't know what you mean by "stock drive" or "modifed manufacturer one"
If by stock you are referring to the one installed from the Windows 7 DVD, it is from the manufactirer of the video card in you computer and given to microsoft.

All drivers come from the manufacturer of the devices.

If your system is working fine, it is not always necessary to update to newer drivers.

he means you can go to your motherboard website and they will have their own "modified" versions of the actual hardware producers driver. I guess they customize the drivers to coexist better with their own motherboard?
