Hey all, I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my custom built pc with existing XP x32 on it and I receive the stop error 0x0000003B. I have sufficient amounts of memory and all of my hardware is compatible, however, could this stop error be because of my GeForce 9800 GTX? If so, can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?

Since you are going from 32bit to 64bit you need to do a clean install, i would recommend formatting the HDD with killdisk or similar then try again unplugging all non essential equipment

Alright in the process of using killdisk to erase my local disk. After this is done I'm going to unplug my graphics card. Will the card on the motherboard be able to work with the installation of win7 or will the same problem arise because the proper drivers are not available?

If you have onboard video it will work as long as it is enabled in bios as when seperate gfx card is put in onboard would have been disabled so check this before you start

Did the machine work ok before you tried win 7, have you changed anything, if it was ok before i would leave it as it was format the HDD and try to install.

If you have memory issues you should test ram with memtest86 or similar or just try it with one stick at a time if theres a chance its faulty

Did you run windows 7 upgrade advisor to check the machine was compatible

everything worked perfectly fine before i tried win 7, i haven't changed anything, and i did run windows 7 upgrade advisor and everything checked out nothing was wrong or incompatible. The ram was working perfectly fine before win 7 so I guess i'll try it with one stick at a time to see what that does.

so far everything is working. I'm working on installing updates and drivers and putting back everything back to normal. However, I seem to have a problem with adding the other 2 gb's of ram to my computer. Are there any updates for my Asus M3N78-Pro motherboard that will allow the use of all 4 slots of memory because I know for certain I don't have bad ram, everything was working perfectly fine until I tried to install win7.
