Hello all,

my OS is Win 7 64 bit.
I have two storage devices,an SSD drive where the OS and the programs are installed, and a HDD which I use for storage and installing games on it.

Yesterday,I extracted some 7-Zip files from one folder on the HDD ,to an another folder on the HDD,and after the extraction of the files, my SSD free space was occupied by the same size as the files I extracted to the HDD.

Please tell me how do I resolve this issue, and free up the space on the SSD?

Thanks to all in advance.

Depending on exactly how you extracted the files, 7-Zip may need to use temporary storage while extracting them. By default this is on your C: drive.

7-Zip said:
Why does drag-and-drop archive extraction from 7-Zip to Explorer use temp files?

7-Zip doesn't know folder path of drop target. Only Windows Explorer knows exact drop target. And Windows Explorer needs files (drag source) as decompressed files on disk.So 7-Zip extracts files from archive to temp folder and then 7-Zip notifies Windows Explorer about paths of these temp files. Then Windows Explorer copies these files to drop target folder.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Open Explorer and type %temp% in the address bar to find your temp folder, typically this is C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Temp. It is safe to try and delete anything you see there, you will only be allowed to delete files that are no longer in use.

Disk Clean up will also remove temporary files, but only after they are older than 10 days.

Thank you for replying!

I cleaned the 'temp' folder, and also set the temp folder in 7-Zip to be on the HDD,but the SSD is still occupied.

MOVE it.

You can add Copy To and Move To to the rt click menu with a simple registry addition

CopyTo-MoveTo.reg
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}]
