Some weirdness happened with my Windows 7 computer today and I am looking for some ideas.

For reasons not important to this thread, I wanted to boot my computer into Ubuntu. So, I downloaded UNetbootin and used it to create a bootable Ubuntu on a USB drive. I booted Ubuntu, used it, then rebooted the computer into Windows 7.

Two things were off in Windows: First, the time shown was UTC not the local time. Second, when I pushed the button to put the computer into standby mode, the screen blanked right away, but the computer itself did not go into standby for more than a full minute (and it typically takes just a few seconds).

Could booting the computer into Ubuntu have caused these issues? More importantly, what should I look at to ‘fix’ things? I suspect that something in the BIOS may have been tweaked (and my motherboard is a MSI P55-GD80 series motherboard).

Ubuntu must have touched the Windows install from the sounds of it. You could always try a standard issue sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt and/or try a system restore.

Couple of things.

When you boot another OS you should probably disconnect the hard drive/s. Unless of course you use something like HIren's boot CD...

Those low power modes of standby and hibernation can and will cause a lot of issues. I've read it for years on various tech forums and because of that and my own personal experience I don't use those low power modes. I just turn the computer off and on like normal.
