Solved Strange issue when adding a folder to a library

Greetings, I have what I hope to be a simple question. I have the default libraries and two new libraries I created. When I add a folder to them such as "My Playlists" it adds "C:" to the end of the name. I don't believe it did that before my computer crashed. Am I missing something and is this something that I can fix. When I go to rename the folder in the library the "C:" is not showing up so I can't remove it. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Off topic: I noticed you listed your system with 2 GB ram how does win 7 run ?

Yes, I did. No, I don't have multiple partitions. The problem is, say a have a folder under my user account called My Videos and I want to add it to the Videos Library. When I do Include in Library, the folder under the Video library is not called My Videos, it's called My Videos C: Very strange. Probably something simple I'm missing.

Could you post a screenshot showing the properties of the library like below to see what it says for included folder locations, and if something may stand out as an issue?

Where is your "My Videos" folder actually located at?

And, the folder is stored in c:\user\{user name}\ and is called "My Playlists". Thanks for your time!

You don't have any folders included in your "Playlists" library.

Ok, this might help clarify a bit. You see where it has the (C in it? Why it that? I don't want it to do that and before my system crashed I don't believe it did that. Also, if I try to rename the folder it only shows me "My Music" to rename not "My Music (C" to rename. Does that make it a bit clearer? Also, included properties of the library. Thanks for all the help!

Having the (C) display at the end of the name like that is normal for a drive, but not for a folder.

As a test, remove the My Music folder from the Music library, then include it back to see if that clears the (C) from the name.

If not, then see if using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to restore the default My Music folder may help.

This is the strangest thing. I did as you requested... removed and included in several of the different ways and it's still being stubborn and wanting to put the (c at the end of the filename when included in a library. Also, sorry for all the emoticons. Thanks!

Since doing OPTION TWO above didn't help, then see if downloading and merging the .reg files for the folder and directory options in the tutorial below may. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for them.

Unfortunately, that did not work either. I did notice one thing and I don't know if this makes a difference or not. I checked the Properties of the folder "My Documents" and it has the following tabs: General, Sharing, Security, Location, Previous Versions & Customize while "My Music", "My Software" & "My Playlists" only have the tabs: General, Sharing, Security, Previous Versions & Customize. It seems "Location is missing from the other 3 folders. Would that make any kind of difference?

That shouldn't make any difference for the drive letter being displayed with the folder name, but the folders, it opened directly from within your "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder location, should have a "Location" tab.

When they don't, then something is wrong with them, and OPTION TWO in thetutorial below should be used to restore all of their default locations.

Ok, I'm not sure if this is correct but I clicked on the "Choose what you want to share, and view the homegroup password" and then unchecked everything and went on through the options. After I did this, the My Music, My Documents, My Videos & My Pictures libraries and folders all now have a Location tab and the (C is gone; however, I still cannot add a custom library and a folder to it without it adding the (C to the end of it. Also, when I went back to check the homegroup settings again, all the files were checked again. Not sure what I did but I think we're on right track.

Odd. As a test, create a new administrator account, and see how this works while logged in to it.

Ok, very strange, I created an Admin account and created a new library and a blank folder. Again, when I went to add the folder to the newly created library, it added the C: to the end of it. {going to stop putting () around it so the emoticons will stop}.

I must admit that I'm not sure why it keeps adding a drive letter to a folder like that unless you leave the homegroup shares unchecked.

If you have a restore point available that is dated before this started, you might see if doing a system restore with the restore point may help.

That's just it, I had to reformat my drive and reinstall XP and then upgrade to 7 and reinstall all my software and then restore all my data from CrashPlan so I really don't have a restore point to work with. Tell me more about the Homegroup stuff. How exactly should that be set. Maybe I have something set wrong there that's doing this. Any other help would be greatly appreciated!

That's funny when I tried to add the "Playlists" folder to the "My Documents" library it gave me some message like "Do you want to share this folder?" I think I have something setup wrong with my Homegroup & Sharing. I don't want to share anything and want to have it all turned off. Can you advise or does this add any additional light?

Since you are not part of a homegroup and do not wish to share any files, you could just leave all the homegroup sharing settings unchecked, and answer No to any "Do you want to share this folder?" questions since you do not have this issue when doing this.

My Homegroups settings says I'm part of the Homegroup. Should I perhaps select the option "Leave the Homegroup"?
