Strange issue with Firefox

I've a strange issue with Firefox.

Here's the deal. I have to use Firefox to listen to live streamed content from Giants.com - Giants.com | Gameday: Postgame because IE11 simply refuses to play live content there.

Anyway for some odd reason while using Firefox my sound suddenly cuts out and the only way to get it working again is to reboot. This strange issue happens nowhere but with Firefox. I've played games and listened to music for hours on end and this doesn't happen; I can listen to achieved content (not live) using IE11 all day long and it doesn't happen. This only happens when using Firefox

In fact it just happened now while typing this post and listening to the live post game show. So after I finish this post I have to reboot the system to get my sound back

Anyone seen this or know what's going on?

No, but if its any consolation I have streaming problems with F.F. too. I just change over to Maxthon if I want to watch/listen to something. NO problems with it. (I use F.F. as a "backup" type browser and not really a fan so use it sparingly)

If you have FF addon 'Noscript' installed, you should pick one of these 2 options.

Thing is I don't have any add-one as I strictly use FF to listen to the live streamed content from giants.com, outside of that, I only use IE.

Anyway I find the issue very strange that it should kill my sound to the point of requiring a system re-boot. Very odd for browser behavior, and it only happens with FF.

I have the Adobe flash plug-in installed or else it wouldn't play videos. And outside of those natively installed with the program, I've installed nothing else. Just downloaded, installed, used.

Again, the ONLY reason I have FF installed is because IE11 won't play live streamed content from giants.com. Other than listening to the live content there, I've NO reason to use FF, so I've not tweaked it.

Anyway the issue is after awhile it disables my sound card/drivers to the point of requiring a re-boot. Please re-read my post.

Do you have the latest sound drivers for your pc, if so, try reinstalling them.

OK, before we go any further, I'm currently running Windows 8.1 on this machine, so while this should probably be posted in the eight forums, I was kind of hoping to get an answer here as to the issue.

With that, if you look at my system specs, you'll notice I have a SoundBlaster ZXR card, which while there are Win 8 drivers, there are no Win 8.1 drivers at this time. But to answer the question... yes I have the latest windows 8 drivers available.

All that said, as I've said in my original post - this ONLY happens with Firefox. Outside of that, I have NO sound issues. And if you read my post you'll note that I've stated I can listen to music, play games, or listen to achieved content using IE11 all day long and not lose my sound; the issue is strictly with Firefox

At any rate I'm there's just one more game in the season for us then I'll dump Firefox.

Anyway thanks trying to help. I don't know what the issue is, but it's not like I use Fox all the time so... and who knows, maybe a new set of drivers from Creative may solve the issue. It's just extremely strange that it only happens with Firefox, and that I can pretty much guarantee the issue will pop-up sometime within an hour of use.

Just remembered my friend having trouble listening to music from a BBC UK web site. When the correct version of FF was installed, it worked perfectly. Try this link. Mozilla Firefox Web Browser ? Download Firefox in your language ? Mozilla

If you're using Firefox as some sort of a "backup browser", you might want to try Pale Moon. It is a stripped-down version of Firefox. You might get lucky with it.

Appreciate the tip, but I'm only using Firefox for the giants.com site because IE11 refuses to play live content from them. Outside of that, no other IE11 issues.

Anyway our (NY Giants (football)) season ends next week, and after that I'll have no further use for any "backup browsers".

Still, the mystery remains.... why is Firefox killing my sound to the point of needing a re-boot to get it back?

I'm in the Giants website and currently listening to the BBK (12/23): Lions Recap with Pale Moon. It is my main browser (since FF is bloated with things people don't normally need) and it's compatible with all FF addons. Not a live broadcast, but the sound is pretty okay.

Your problem is indeed baffling with the relation of FF (or any browser) explicitly crashing your system's sound. Just in case:

(1a) Uninstall FF with Revo Uninstaller to remove any traces/leftovers of the previous installation.
(1b) Install the latest stable release of FF (Ver.26 as of this writing). You might be running on the latest beta release instead of the stable one.

OR

(2) Use a different browser for the live streams (Maxthon, Pale Moon, etc.).

Yeah those are achieved (old) shows so they will play just fine. It's the live content that won't play. Example - when there are real time live shows playing, then IE11 simply refuses to play them. It's as though flash gets disabled.

BTW the next "live" show won't be till Friday around 9:30 am EDT.

Anyway I've already discussed that issue elsewhere here and in the eightforums so no need to rehash it here.

The issue here is Firefox's strange behavior of disabling my sound to require a re-boot to get it back. As I've stated many times... this issue ONLY happens with Firefox.
