They work, prime95 stresses CPU, and the best ram test is memtestx86.

Memtest and Prime are very good tools to get your stable. However, nothing beats Linpack.

The deal is that is stresses your CPU, RAM or a combination of both. By placing high artifical loads on your system it attempts to uncover any weaknesses such as insufficent voltages or incorrect RAM settings!!!!

Memtest ideally needs 6-8 passes. The more the better. 1 - 2 passes is insufficent, unless it errors out straight away. It's slow and is best to let run overnight.

P95 small FFTS mainly test your CPU Any errors, crashes here are usually due to insifficent vcore (CPU volts)

Large FFTS mainly test RAM. Any errors, crashes here are usually RAM related.

Blend (Torture Test) tests both CPU and RAM. When running Blend, you should select 'round of error checking' in the Advanced menu.

P95 ideally needs to be run 8-12hrs. Just like memtest, 1 - 2 hours is insufficient.

For both tests, only go for the 'long runs' when it has already passed the 1hr / 1 pass mark. If either test gives errors etc early on, stop and adjust. No point in a 'long run' when an error has already shown up.

Keep an eye on your temps when running p95. If it causes the temps to spike too high, stop the test. Very high temps + extended run = not good for components.

Memtest is the only test I will recommend, it is well worth burning to disc and keeping for future use. It is very easy to burn the CD. If you don't have a burning probgram, d/l the free Imgburn, it is easy to use, and you will have no problems. A Guy

Memtest is the only memory test worth using. Windows has a built in one, but quite frankly it's crap and not worth the time of day.

You don't have to burn a disc. You can install it on a bootable flash drive if you have one.

As for ease of use - you couldn't get much simpler. It boots and it runs. You don't even have to touch it if you don't want to.

Aside from the RAM testing components in stress testers, there just aren't any decent installable memory testers worth using.

That's why memtest is still the no.1 recommended stand alone memory tester.

I hate to say it, but there's just no getting around the fact that memtest is THE best memory tester
