My IE9 has got itself stuck in "InPrivate Browsing" mode. I've used gpedit.msc to permanently disable InPrivate Browsing, as I've never used it, but I'm uncomfortable disabling a feature like this. My memory is going, and by the time I decide to try InPrivate Browsing, I will probably have forgotten how to enable it again...

Any suggestions?

Hello Steve,

Normally, IE9 would only stay in "InPrivate Browsing" mode while you have the "InPrivate Browsing" window open. Afterwards, opening the normal IE9 shortcut should open IE9 in normal mode.

I think my confusion was misunderstanding how InPrivate works, combined with something that turned off most of my toolbars giving the effect of InPrivate. Thanks for the explanation.

I stopped/started IE9, then rebooted Windows7. No change. I opened a new tab, and at the bottom it said "InPrivate Browsing". I thought this was telling me that InPrivate was active. It seems this is the link which turns it on.

I fiddled with the toolbars until I realised that I preferred most of them off.

Ah, ok. You'll see a blue Inprivate box to the left of the address bar in IE9 like below when it's in InPrivate Browsing mode. :)
