I apologize for any formatting or spelling errors, I'm on mobile for reasons that will become obvious. I'll be as detailed as I can with what happened.
My system had a hiccup earlier today, when the window I had open (my music folder) spazzed out, with the address bar started continuously dropping down like I was rapidly clicking on it. It would not let me switch to other programs (I had Winamp open with a several-thousand-song playlist, I suspect this may be a contributing factor of not cause). I used task manager to close both the folder and winamp. Restarting winamp, however, appeared that the program was now permanently minimized. I could still play music, but not even task manager's "bring program to front" would reveal the program. So, I restarted. This did not fix the problem. So, I attempted to restart the system in safe mode, but hitting F8 during startup did nothing. Next step was going in to startup config and telling it to start up in safe mode next time.
Here is when things became well and truly borked.
The computer seemed to start up into safe mode, but at the login screen it suddenly restarted. A little odd, I felt, but I let it be. ...then it restarted on the next login screen, even before I could input my password. Next startup I tried to tell it to shut down on the login screen, but apparently it had already told itself to restart.
I have run Windows Memory diagnostic, chkdsk, and completed a system restore. Startup repair found a problem but said it could not be automatically fixed, and I am without internet until Tuesday at the earliest, so reporting the problem from there is not possible, and I can't find my install disk to save my life (my desk is much cleaner now, though).
If you can help in any way, I would be very grateful.
