Stuck on startup repair screen saying repairing hard drive

Before I start this happened after updating the motherboard BIOS from version 1.4 to 1.7, I went to 1.6 after just in case the latest BIOS had a bug

I've been stuck on the startup repair for almost 5 hours saying that it's repairing my hard drive or whatever (i forget exactly what it said), I first booted linux to check the SMART data on the HDD (i now know that I can do it with HBCD too) it came back all fine. I am now running Hirens Boot CD and DRevitalise to scan and repair bad sectors.

System Specs:

i5 3570k @ stock
MSI Z77 GD55 BIOS Version 1.6
8GB Kingston HyperX 1600mhz
Running HD4000 graphics
500GB Blue WD HDD

I do have a DxDiag on the desktop of the pc in question which I could get if needed (to tired to do
now)

Edit: Reinstalling is not an option I will consider unless there is nothing else that I can do.

Edit: Turns out there is a tool from WD for HDD testing, am running that now instead if the last one.

Test ran with no errors shown, SMART data says drive is OK.

EDIT: I have also tried booting in safe mode, goes straight to the same screen. (should have mentioned I tried this first)

Oh and one of the ethernet activity led's on the back on the motherboard is solid orange while the other is off

I'd want to run the WD Diagnostics Data Lifeguard extended CD test which can be run from bootable Hiren’s BootCD 15.1 since the WD site is too incompetent to keep a good ISO download up for long before it goes away for a year unnoticed.

Then I'd run a Disk Check from the booted Win7 DVD Command Line, on all partitions.

Both of these tests can also be run from free Partition Wizard which also is on the Hiren's boot disk or flash stick. Partition Wizard Check File System

While you have PW booted, run Partition Wizard Rebuild MBR - Video Help after checking the Active flag is intact on the correct partition as explained in the Troubleshooting steps, then run Startup Repair 3 times with Active flag on first SysReserved and then C.

I'd also use the other Hiren tool suggested in the steps too, to know you've done everything.

Is there any chance you can roll back the BIOS to 1.4? Or up to 1.8?

A BIOS update started the problem as noted in post 1.
