Stupid Stupid Laptop Battery

I use battery doubler which takes care of all the battery issues... No need to fret whether the battery is properly charged/discharged... I use WinXP thou and the program doesn't have a Win7 version yet... Maybe someone here would know about a similar program for Win7

Battery Doubler - Download
Before, your only solution to have a decent battery life for your laptop was to buy an extra one. Now, there's a lighter, more efficient, and cheaper alternative: Battery Doubler! Because it doesn't use standard techniques (dim screen light, etc.), but finds out what is not being used and turns it off, such as, for example, the USB ports, you can achieve double the activity without sacrificing comfort.

After using your battery a lot without paying attention to discharge and recharge it fully every time, its performance becomes very low. With Battery Doubler, simply run the recalibration wizard and it does the entire job for you - automatically!

From the configuration window to the battery status indicator features, Battery Doubler excels in ease-of-use. The interface fully respects Microsoft's guidelines and is very intuitive. Because you don't always want to read a 300-pages manual before using a software, you will understand how to use Battery Doubler in no time.

In addition to Windowstar's suggestion you have to realise that win7 was designed specifically to provide a better experience for the laptop user - this is achieved, in part, by a far superior power management system which allows shutdown of unused USB,and other functionality, out of the box, that required third party applications in XP

This combined with a far more efficient system kernel makes the majority of power related utilities from the XP era redundant.

Agreed. I now drain my battery once a week. Best I can do really as I don't have a spare and/or a battery replacement cover -- really wish manufacturers would supply this in the box!

One other thing that you can do on some modern laptops if you are using them in a fixed location is to remove the battery completely and run from the mains alone.

This will not work with all systems but is an option for those that allow it :D
That's what I'd ideally like to do, but I have no battery replacement cover. :(

Manhunter I don't have a cover for my laptop's battery either.... when it's removed.. after taking a good look at it.. I don't see much in the hole to be very concerned with.. maybe I'm blind to what might go wrong in there.:o

My battery says it has 4:45 left. If I set it to balanced(right now running on high power) it goes to almost 7 hours.

I really love my laptop.

Joe what cell is your battery ?..that makes a big difference also...
mine is a ..6-cell Lithium-ion battery .. about 2.50 hrs. on Wi-Fi...:)

2.5 hours on WiFi is perfectly acceptable. That is about what we get. Very good.

Carl thanks that makes me feel good about mine too.. it's just humming along without the battery... I do wish I had a cover for that space .. but I took a peek.. I really didn't see much to be concerned with.. I have my laptop on a Laptop cooling mat.. with 2 fans.. however... I see no need to turn the fans on.. this keeps it up high enough the fan rarely runs..plus I need the extra height for my height.. since I'm quite tall.
What settings on the battery are ideal?? I have mine set to NEVER sleep..
when I hit the Shut nDown button I want it to close down totally...on battery or plugged in..
I have my screen about 1/2 bright on the scale.(. for both ).... turn off the display after 15 min... plugged in.and less on the battery..is this setting about right ?

Sorry about not answering your question LADYPINK... It's a 9 cell battery.
Joe hi.. not a problem at all..
I was just wondering since your battery time was quite long compared to my 6 cell..on Wi-Fi..When I can purchase a long life battery I shall do that.. to use when away from home..
Thanks for your reply.:)

looks more like I should plan to switch to Win7 soon but still apprehensive whether it would be a smooth affair, dont want to face another disaster like vista was for me

I have Mae Lyne's laptop set to never sleep also. We just turn it off when we are finished. She uses her screen on the next to the most dim setting. She has her display turn off after ten minutes. She turns her display off using the function key when she leaves the computer for any reason.

Sorry about not answering your question LADYPINK... It's a 9 cell battery.

It's mainly dust and debris that I'm worried about; perhaps I'm being overly concerned. I just wish manufacturers would supply a replacement cover in the box -- things like this always annoy me after one has spent good money.
