Stuttering Graphics

I am having a problem with stuttering graphics when I play online. It doesn't seem to matter what game I play...Savage or Minecraft are the games I really play, but here is what is happening. At random intervals, (anywhere between 10seconds and a minute), I will have several seconds of graphic stuttering, where I cannot scan (look around) properly. Scanning becomes laggy or freezes in place. At first I thought it was my router, so I bypassed that. Then I updated my graphics card drivers to the most recent drivers. My computer does not seem to have this problem when I take it to someone else's house. I did a speed test and I got 4.28mb/s download and .43mb/s up. This is the same connection I used to use on my old computer with no problem, but I recently had a new computer built (the one I'm having the problem with) and here is what went into it.

Does anyone have any ideas about where to proceed next? I called my ISP and basically they said "it's not our problem", which was not so helpful. I'm kind of at a loss about what to do next.

If it works at someone else'es house it is the network. You might have a latency issue from a driver. Download and run this check. DPC Latency Checker

Have you checked your virus, spyware and firewall setting?
You may need to make an exception in those programs.

Thanks for the response....I ran that check...after about three minutes I stopped it because I wasn't sure if anything was happening, Absolute Maximum was 808us but I seemed to be averaging about 125-250 us. All the bars were in the green. Do I have to run it until it stops on its own? I'm unsure of how to interpret this data or what to do next.

bit of an update to this story, i swapped out the graphics card for an ati radeon HD 4670 and had the same problem. :/ I'm at a complete loss about what to do next. I tried turning off my firewall, and I even went as far as to uninstall my anti-virus program, and neither of those seemed to have any effect.

This may not work but it's worth a try.
AMD CCC > Video > All Settings >

Check "Enforce Smooth Video Playback"
Check "Apply current video quality settings to Internet Video"

Have you checked to see if your network adapter driver is up to date and the one provided by the manufacturer?

Thanks for the suggestions, but still not working. I checked: "Apply current video quality settings to Internet Video" and I installed up-to-date drivers for my network adapter (nov 31st).

Any other ideas?
Basically I think I'm going to have to reformat/reinstall windows at this point, and I'm dreading that, trying to exhaust all options before I have to do that...and after that, what then? Start buying new parts for a brand new computer?

I went through the same problem when I first switch from XP to Vista, it had something to do with the new IPv6 that my router was not up to date with (firmware wise... I had an old WRT54G router).

IIRC, what I did was, update my Ethernet drivers, update my Bios drivers and update my router to a newer one.

Now, you said you did all that to no avail... perhaps disabling the IPv6 can help a bit, perhaps you can have your friend lend you his router just to test?

Also, what the other member said is true... if it play well at your friend's house, your PC is fine and the problem is your network.

Here's the thing. If it was just my router...when I bypassed the router and just used the modem at home, it should have worked (if the problem was the router). At my friend's house, he had no router but it worked fine. Could the problem be my modem?
What can I do if the problem is my network? Do I ask my ISP for a new modem? What is the IPv6 and how do I disable it?

We are venturing into a part that I am not really comfortable with, network is/has always been a mystery to me, a crap shoot if you want.

Being said that, bottom right of your screen, where you see the little monitor, time and date, that is your network/internet access, click on it and then click on "Open network and sharing center", click on Local Area Connections and then on your Properties, un-tick your IPv6, restart and try again.

Your modem may or may not be the culprit here but I don't really know how you can test this. You may also be getting a bad connection, ping, etc but I will let the most gurus here help with that since I am only going to get you in more trouble

Step 1: Throw your hard drive in the trash can! It is worse than what comes out of my rear end! I have a Western Digital WDC WD6400BEVT-80A0RT0, I the same problem all the time! I found that it was my hard drive (It seems so odd, right?) out on the ASUS ROG forum (link:

). I doubt I stopped you from formatting practically everything on your computer, but at least now you have an excuse to buy a new SSD! I have my excuse! (Once I go b**** about this into some of WD's and Asus's support techs.)

I didn't look very deep for a solution, but I am going to do that now. If I can find a solution, I'll try to post it here, but so far, you might as well upgrade to a SSD, I mean, code of replacement: Upgrade the first thing that breaks?

Hi

Did you try to cycle your connection. Turn off your pc. Unplug your modem power from the wall- Look at your modem- it should have a lil hole or a button on it someplace that says reset- press it hold it like 20-30 seconds- if a lil hole use a paper clip or something- plug the modem back into the wall socket power back on your pc. That works many times and if you have other switches or routers down the line- you always start at the pc and power off everything back to the source. then reset and power on each device back to the pc.

Other than that- some games need to be tweaked in the program files- tweak guides may help- you can google such things- look at the settings for your net speed in the game user file what ever it is check the net speed- and depends on your actual isp speeds but- say in the file it is set default 10000 and you are using cable say 5 down 2 up- try and lower that 10000 to 8000 use note pad etc- after you make the change click save close out- fire up the game. Some games net speed might show as 21000 or something- try and lower it to 18000 or 19000 maybe- you might have to experiment some try a few other settings- normally you have to lower it from its defaults.

It is best to turn off all extra back ground stuff when playing and more so over the net in mp- Folks may not think so but you need a lil extra tweaking performance playing online versus sp or over lan. You should turn off areo glass- all security other than your firewall- xfire can cause probs- messengers all of it.

Though it works fine on your buds network- does not mean anything is wrong with yours it might just be different- different speeds hardware etc. You might have to make the in game program files tweaks even if your net work is perfect- it is just the nature of the gaming and or mp over the net beast..

Many net work problems can be solved just by proper cycling off on the net work- it really works a lot of the time- and can be done every so often if your net speeds are acting up.. Many times say verizon comes out and sets ya up and you are wired and the router etc offers wireless too- they never turn off the wireless stuff unless you are there and tell them too. Sometimes and depends on your type of service fios or dsl or cable- mostly dsl or cable- just cycling is not enough- you have to access the modem or router from your browser maybe 192.*** what ever it is- most passwords are normally admin or password. Make sure you are set up right- I can not remember now what the proto calls are- but some have have reconnect what ever- you might have to press it give it a minute what ever and should be fine- this is after the normal cycling talked about before. While in the modem you can check other settings turn on off wireless check and see if the firewall is on off etc..

You should have some lit. with your service or can search info on the net from the service site- maybe in maintenance or trouble shooting and will give the proper cycling directions.. If your service is new- I would guess it already has the latest firmware- You need to know the modem router model number etc might be instructions on the site and can check and see if any firmware updates.

What about your modem etc are you using wireless- does the modem offer wireless options even if hard wired to your system and not using the wireless part- if not using it is it off in the modem router etc- you can be wired but it is still going off over the air can cause probs or maybe the folks next door high jacks your connection and you do not know it. You can set such things in modems or routers to only use the system addresses you tell it too and will block all others.

Also I guess some if not all modems might have a fire wall- most all routers do- its been a long while since I used a modem- but- your system only needs 1 firewall- either the modem router firewall or on your pc firewall- my self I prefer on my system- I would turn off a firewall on my modem router- some prefer the opposite- its just from my pc I can easy see attacks what ever pops up if attacked- you can not see that if using a modem etc firewall- Fire walls are a lot like anti virus- you do not need more than 1 or can have probs ..

1 more note: Even old school pro gamers- the ones who played in real tourneys sponsored tourneys etc. Which all was over lan. You can not watch or stop cheating over the net and is why you went to the tourney etc. But normally you could only make in game tweaks in settings no going into program files or nothing else and all hardware is provided- or most of the time anyway. But them guys would be playing on the most powerful gear known to man at that time. Them trying to win the money would lower in game quality settings for added performance- they never would play with all eye candy on high etc.- maybe only view distance would be higher. Every lil tiny bit helps and help you to see the enemy or respond a fraction of a sec faster than the other guy. Get the kill maybe the win and the cash and prises- maybe the girl too ha ha..

Even with said monster systems of today- folks gaming still have to make the performance tweaks they did 6 years ago- It is just the facts..

Yep- the good ole days when we had real servers and real pc games and not suck port crap or suck gfwl.
