This strange rectangular do-dad showed up on my Windows 7 laptop last week. Unfortunately can't remember what I was doing prior to that... but then also appeared on my son's laptop (Windows 7, linked thru home router). Other computers in house not effected (OS 7, 8.1). Did not yet pull a restore point because I wanted to check here first. It appears in very lower-right corner on startup, nowhere else. It can be moved by dragging with left-click, but right-click has no effect. All windows are behind it at all times except task bar (browser, software, games, etc.). Has anyone ever seen this before? Google image search did not yield a match. Thank you so much!
PS - This is my first post, so please let me know how I did :)

Please be patient with my ignorance, but can you say that again in plain English? All I understand is to follow the link for the Troubleshooting Steps...

Did my attachment not work? I saw it in the preview and I followed the directions to the letter. I will try again:

Welcome CaliforniaGirl :)

Can you do a screen snip of it with a little more view of the surrounding area with the win7 snipping tool ?

Thank you Not Myself. This is exactly the issue! Too bad I couldn't find the image another way and not waste all your time. Sorry for the duplicate thread.
Best from out west!

That is not a problem, I'll just bill you twice for my approximately one minute to post my reply, the one that helped you. Herewith that bill: $$00..0000.

Sent from a snowy southwest.
