1)
Avast should auto start, ~dont use it myself~ however all AV's have a Dashboard settings page
check there first, should have a tickbox - run on start-up, is it enabled?
if yes then go here
a) ControlPanel>>Administration Tools >>SystemConfiguration>> Services tab>>Avast(should be ticked)

Screen dimming is a standard MS feature, as i said previously it does it as a warning as part of UAC. as well as if your not using the comp or running on battery and its running low on charge
settings for these are in a) personalisation/screensaver b) power options

firefox, open tools >> Advanced >> Updates>> choose which option you want
NOT updating your browser is a serious security concern DEFINATELY not advised

MS Updates unless your on the ESU, highly unlikely, the only update you will be offerred is MSRT - kb890830

2. thank you, should have been a factory built in issue, so users can be back to their lives. is screen blurring same as screen "Dimming, cause some times when I move super fast on comp it blurs for a second and then goes back to focus mostly when I am file searching.???

3. logic says your right, but Fire fox up dates are what have blown my smooth sailing 3 times now, again it should be invisible to user and just work like mac, but gates Logic is a kid with with the delusion of endless play time and now we know he is other things too. But/ so this concerns me, I have a FFox update I have been saying no to for a week, Now it no longer asks for permission, and seems to have down loaded it self,,,,cause it is no longer asking for permission, is this possible ? any case as I recall MS updates have been smooth, its the fire fox that jams things up, Torchwood, do you have a clue as to why Fox up dates keep sending me to this forum for repair????

the cows are still out to pasture on Auto updateing for me, many folks say it can be used to bug your comp,
so for time being I will leave it off, erring on the side of safety, frankly, I think MS is a bunch of perverts and "Tracking is a gate way drug to rape" but just IMHO. I would like a AVAST tool to scan ALL updates, I see you have kaspersky, He is a man among children, I went to his site, no geek stuff, just skying photos, adult life embracing epistemology I love him. They should let him be the new Dr. Who I will get to your tools questions as time permits, which I have more of cause to use, so thanks for reminder, this was a ass kicking post with your help.

You have to remember, Avast and Firefox are add-ons MS has no control over them!!!
(i'm sorting out another thread in regard to Printers, they are even more insidious)

OEM's generally included, a 30 day trial of an AV, then upto the user to do as they wish.
I have NEVER used a paid for 1, absolutely pointless for a general user like you -- a lesser extent to me coz i do things you wouldn't

screen blurring is totally different to dimming, it implies a system shortfall could be
out of date graphics driver
out of date program
insufficient RAM
low end CPU unable to cope with whats running
indexing turned Off -- re slow search

Firefox in its own right has NOT been known to cause problems, in W7
Its the Extensions you have added to it(some are malicious- if not taken from there store)
As you approved it during its initial run/install, UAC would have asked, NO further permissions would have been required
note you can refresh it--- read carefully

1. advast will still not come up with out clicking it on, I did reset it, but have not done a reboot so icnic:

2. bought this used, I put it in, I have a high CPU usage, screen blurs for 3 seconds then self corrects,
this is mostly when I am loading a 128 gb music thumb drive, and do other things as well.
I was told "Indexing" is a huge drag on machine time, so I have it off every where.

3. I have add ons from F fox, only, is this RESET you refer to across the board and problem free?

4. you mean the last pic, WOW what is water FOX ?? I am lost

Lastly did tom ever do any other work or did Dr. Who image stamp him for ever?

I have lost track here a little, not out of disrespect for you, just can't wrap my head around this, I am all right brained.
I have once again got a FFox update, now my printer wont scan, it now has the simple driver now you suggested.
printer will not connect to bring up scan directions screen but i can print.
I am still getting the pop up than says what the picture I left you said needed down loaded or activated net frame v4030319 work where do I get that, cause changing out brother did not work.
I have not found that click off you said to click on, in your picks- Task Scheduler.
I have set avast to show in lower info bar task bar? it does not, I am turning it on from Roland's suggestion to put avast tab by start button.

What should i now do first?

i would like you to do this in order.
1)
run sfc /scannow
and KB947821
(asked earlier did you??)

2)
your no:1
- Avast
recheck the startup settings, if its OFF something else is turning it off
couple of ways to try and find the cause
run the Farbar tool i requested previously
UNinstall Avast, install another AV if the same problem then i definately need the Farbar reports, likely malware

CPU usage will be high when you open a stick that size

FF reset generally completes without a problem, FF.old Folder will appear on your desktop

Waterfox is a FF offshoot i use, but the screenshot for updating is the same

I am not trying to drive you crazy
I am going to try to go back on this thread and do the UAC? correction and will get back here to see what you say.

Update
I have set UAC to the 3rd level up. with avast acting flunkie I am afraid of any other setting, could not down load "Bit Defender" so i can dump advast, it just did/would not down load from site -nothing happen when i hit down load button

Roy please do not ask me to do anything with out clear pic paths to the item, I will have no idea what you are talking about.

I tried running sfc /scannow, a black screen pops up and disappears again REAL FAST --in short useless
KB947821, have zero idea where that is, i put it into search programs from start button-nothing showed

I ran kasperki AV
I ran CMD something -no issues
I ran both disk checks from properties disk c tools -all A_OK
printer will still print...... but now not scan
again, what ever you want me to do, show me the paths to get to it, or your wasting our time.
one thing is for sure, I will never let go of a restore point again, cause if i had a few, we'd both be on to other things

Just got bit defender to down load, will install later when i am not so tiered, I am concerned about getting avast remnants all the way out as they are a tenacious team.

sfc /scannow, have tried to run this again and it still pops up a black box that shuts it self down and disappears again in 2 seconds ?????

I have set the notify me level when program makes changes to ETC.-- to not recommended, I can scan again, avast just comes on without clicking icon Roy showed me how to use near start , and some other programs now work as well. this makes me uncomfortable, is there a way to get them approved for use, so i can turn elevation back up for safety. Errata- doc says its a brown Recluse spider now,

Hi Folks
after three hospital visits, minor surgery (minor for the Dr. who did it, not me) I seem apart of the world again.
lesson learned ? never let a hole in your under house AC vent go unpatched, its a invite to unfriendly creatures.
I have made most of the repairs to above listed issues "on my own" as Torch Wood seems to have disappered
in the middle of the Repair :busted:.
However since I was not able to get my "Safety Elevation" up where it once was, I leave this thread UN-Solved.
