My Philips MMS460 have well and truly packed up. They keep buzzing. I have disconnected all leads, then added them one by one, moved the cable around, let the transformer cool down, change plug sockets (Encase bad earth) and unplugged them over night to get rid of ALL static, but they still buzz. Apparently these are a common problem with these speakers (Well sub-woofer) and more likely a capacitor is worn out.

I obv need some more, FAST.

I'm not sure if i want 5.1 or 2.1 sound. Reason being i do a lot of 'Computer DJing' so most of the sound comes out the front, although i do play the odd game here and there. I am also thinking encase i need to play music for a small house party, I'm looking for something that is clear sound quality, packs some base and is LOUD. (well, louder then shouting)

My speakers that have gone pop were rated at 170W RMS. And boy they were loud enough for my bedroom, and the base rattled the room (When on max of cause)

Like i say, i play alot of music and the odd game so base would be nice, and great sound quality and volume.

I would have another set, same as my current speakers, but the fact is they will just 'blow up' within 5 years (Even less if i buy 2nd hand which i would probably do) I had only 'max volume' a few times to impress friends (And annoy neighbours )

What can people suggest

Thanks
DB

I have been looking at LOGITECH X-530 5.1 Speaker System. The overall wattage is 10w quieter and costs almost 2/3rd's cheaper then my current speakers (Which makes me thing not great quality)

From this,

http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/m/mms460_00/mms460_00_pss_aen.pdf

I see that you have a 5.1 system, 10W for each satellite, 30W for the sub. (I have no idea what "160W Music Power" means. That's double the sum of the ratings.)

I like my old Monsoon system, but I don't do loud, and I believe they have gotten out of the PC market.

Cambridge Soundworks:

Cambridge Soundworks Home

had a favorable reputation. I don't know how much it has suffered from being owned by Creative Labs. They have a $200 2.1 system that looks like it should be capable of breaking a lease.

I would say get a good 2.1 setup + headphones for music and DJing. 5.1 is more for games and movies sitting on a couch in the middle of a room, and a good setup is over $700.

What is your budget?

I use Logitech X-540 70 watts 5.1 Speakers. They're priced at $64 on newegg but are sold out at the moment. I use these speakers for everything, games mostly, music, and the occasional movie. They get pretty loud. I usually have the bass and volume only about 40-50% up unless my neighbors feel like having loud music, then so do I

Yeah, the X540 is a pretty good system. It's got great sound for a great price. I've been using it for a year and a half now and, especially in gaming, it's got great highs and lows.

I run a line-out from my computer to my stereo receiver's CD-in jackheavy-metal-044.gif....or plug headphones into the jack on the front of the tower.

My ancient powered computer speakers, which weren't even 2.1, just 2.0, now sit on my night stand....and I plug my mp3 players into them if I want quiet tunes to fall asleep to, or loud tunes to wake up to (2/3 of my mp3 players have alarms, and all three have sleep timers).:geek:

Ohhh. They sound NICE!

I don't really have a budget, perhaps £200 Max. I understand that if you buy cheap, you buy twice ;)

I have looked at the LOGITECH X-530 in my local Pc World. They guy tried to sell me them without letting me hear them in action, i walked away.

I got home and read some reviews, unforutantly there not what there made out to be. Reviews i read sounded disappointing.

Personally I use logitechs' Z5500 system and can honestly say it is an awesome bit of kit. Whether it be playing movies, music or games these things excel and for the price they come at it is hard imagining anything coming close in terms of quality of sound and outright power.

The only problem i've found with these is my neighbours:p

All reviews you will read will be a resounding positive one!

I went to bid on a used pair of these on the bay. I bided £99, I was out bided at the last second. (As Usual) Postage was £13

A quick Google shop search revealed i can get them NEW, Delivered for £99.65 LOL with a 2 year warranty.

I shell be buying these as the reviews sound awesome, my last pair of speakers before my ones that have blow were Creative, they were about £20. They were superb for the price lol.

Thanks you all, very much appreciated!

Maybe your thinking of something else or I'm missing something because I cant find them for £99, they usually sell anywhere between £180-250.

If you can get them for that price snap them up and send us the link, I've been thinking of hooking another set up once my cinema/games/chill room is complete.
