Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
Now run Repair_Windows.exe by right clicking and select

Now select the Start Repairs tab.
The click the Start button.
Create a System Restore point if prompted.
On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
Now select the following repair options:
◻ Reset Registry Permissions
◻ Reset File Permissions

◻ Repair Windows Firewall
◻ Repair Internet Explorer

Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
Now click the Start button.
Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
It should reboot automatically when finished.

I mean that I saw nothing happen beyond clicking on the install link you provided. I saw no screen open up, saw no progress bar, saw no new task in the taskbar.

Reopening Chrome still displays the Google home page, as it always did - no popup saying 'click here to complete your update, or whatever'

I don't know because I never made note of the version he was already running. Right now it's running 28.0.1500.95 m. Oh, and there's a line under the version - Update failed (error:3) An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code3:0x80080005)

Tool seems to stop periodically and want me to click on 'Run'. I finally unchecked - always check before running this kind of file.

And oh s**t, I see a msg at the bottom of thr Repair screen that wants me to Disable my antirus before running repairs. I did not do that - MSE is still running.

It finished... And after a restart I still got TPCBD on IE10. But then I clicked on Favorites, and selected Google, and it displayed. Then I clicked on this forum, and it displayed. This is the first answer I've given in what seems like weeks that didn't come from Chrome or Firefox.

Okay. It's close. I got out of IE and clicked on the blue 'e' icon which should now be bringing up Google. Got the same This page cannot yadda yadda yadda. But once again, when I clicked on Google from the Favorites bar it displayed. And then when I clicked on this forum from the bar, it also displayed.

Seems to be something about that initial page. Yet it's set to Google. ????

Can you download a new copy of FRST . Delete the old one before you download the new one

Got the same error when going to about Chrome. Actually first I saw the revolving blue circle and I figured it was gonna work. Then the error.

Might need to Uninstall Chrome and reinstall the updated version.
