Ok so for the last couple of days my pc has been constantly running at 83% cpu usage on idle, as i type this it sits at 83% and my pc is no pig its 6core, 8gb 1600mhz ram, ssd, gt680 so im used to cpu usage being 0-1% while idle or net surfing.

I havent noticed anything in particular to cause the problem it just started happening, have read up on the net but not been able to identify what cause this.

I tried to run resource monitor and i know its svhost.dll thats using it but it wont tell me what service under svhost that is causing the high usage.

I will attach screens so you guys understand what i mean.

I should also mention it happens nearly all the time but after a restart it will sit at 0% until i do something and if i run minecraft after about 1 minute it will jump to 100% until i quit then drops to 83 it happens everytime 100% of the time, but what i dont understand is i have been running minecraft for months so i dont think its tied to that.

Anyway here are the screens.

Hello VivaLaMikey,

After looking at your screenshots and realizing that you have a 64 bit version of Windows installed, a thought occured to me.

That CPU consuming svchost.exe*32 process does not belong on your system!

On a 64 bit Windows system, all legitimate svchost.exe processes do not have the *32 suffix attached to them as they are native 64 bit processes used by Windows that act as containers for groups of services that run on your Windows 7 system.

I see that you are using AVG as your antivirus.

Remove AVG completely from your system by using this removal tool:-

(If you're using AVG 2011)
http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x86_2011_1322.exe (32 bit)
http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x64_2011_1322.exe (64 bit)

(If you're using AVG 2012)
http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avgrem/avg_remover_stf_x86_2012_1796.exe (32 bit)
http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avgrem/avg_remover_stf_x64_2012_1796.exe (64 bit)

Then download and install MSE and MBAM from the following links and perform a complete scan of your computer with each application, one at a time.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) from here:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Download the updates for MSE from here:
Install the latest Microsoft Security Essentials definition updates - Get the latest definitions - Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Download malwarebytes from here:
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.61 - FileHippo.com

And the malwarebytes updates from here:
http://data.mbamupdates.com/tools/mbam-rules.exe

Hope that helps!

So looks like i fixed it, shortly after posting i decided to do a scan with AVG it quickly told me that services.exe in my system32 folder was a trojan, so i deleted it (knowing full well it would kill my system).

Sure enough BSOD on startup so i inserted system repair disk did the repair, rebooted and it all seems fine.

Will still monitor over next couple of days as some forums i read say that its fine for a week or two then issues re-arise.

Have attached a screen of a much more healthy looking Task Manager minus svhost*32 (you were right :P)
