svideo out to tv

How do I get my laptop to show on my tv to watch online movies? My tv is an older toshiba crt which has svid and component no hdmi, when I go to monitors it sees a generic monitor, but I cant seem to get my laptop to show.

Can you please provide some further information - Either what output options do you have from your laptop, or what is the make and model?

output formats and connectors will determine if you need converters or not and which cable you require

Sorry, Toshiba a305-s6916 hdmi-svideo out but tv has no hdmi just svideo\component.

When I had a Toshiba (5-6 years ago). It had a NVidia card and XP in it. I would have to press and hold Fn and press f5 till i selected the type of output I wanted, then let go of the Fn. Don't know if this is the same with Toshiba and win7. Some cards, you just boot with the S-Video plugged in and it works.
By the way... Is it Win7? Because those shipped with Vista.

As Robert has said you will need to set the output device using the function keys.

in addition you may need to set an option for S-Video rather than HDMI output on the laptop and S-Video input on the TV, (check user manuals for how to do this)

As for the actual lead required, unfortunately the Toshiba site does not give a clear view of the sockets .

If you have a mini Din input on the TV and the same output on the laptop you would simply require a suitable lead ensuring the correct pin arrangement is matched at each end, (the DIN standard includes 4, 6,7,8,& 9 PIN options ) ...

If you have another form of socket then various options are available in the form of converters ...

Hope this helps, although I would add that the output may be a disappointment as the S-Video standard is a lot lower than the PC monitor one
