some people saying that it is not possible to install xp after installing windows 7

some people saying we can do it but for that we need to clear all the partitions FORMAT ALL PARTITIONS AND RECREATE PARTITIONS and install again...

Is there any particular reason why you don't want to keep Windows 7?

Certainly, when Windows Vista came out I couldn't wait to go back to XP as I was so disappointed with Vista, but Windows 7 is a whole new ball game and I wouldn't dream of going back to XP now.

Don't forget that Microsoft is in the process of withdrawing support for XP so if there are issues with Windows 7 that you don't have answers for, perhaps we can help you if you let us know what those concerns are.

You can format the partition with Win7 and install XP on it. It shouldn't affect the other partitions. (If you have programs installed off of the Window partition, they'll be lost as well, even if the files remain.)

You should have some means of backing up all of your data files, in event of a misadventure.

im not getting correct answer for my question.. :(

The reason for that is that people, including myself, are not understanding exactly what it is you want to do.

"Im using Windows XP sp-2,and i want to install windows 7 ULTIMATE and so i backupd the data in C: drive and im ready to install Windows 7"

"PLEASE TELL ME A WAY THAT WHICH I CAN INSTALL XP BY FORMATTING WINDOWS 7 WITHOUT DISTURBING OTHER DRIVES[PARTITIONS]"

In the first statement you're asking how to install Windows 7 and in the second statement you're asking how you can install Windows XP - it's no wonder we're confused.

1. How many partitions do you have.

2. Is Windows 7 installed and if so on what partition?

3. Are you saying you want to install Windows XP in place of Windows 7?

For us to help you, we need to know exactly what your setup is now and for that you need to post a screenshot of your existing disk layout in disk management and you need to tell us in clear terms exactly what it is you are trying to achieve.

The way you phrase your questions doesn't help.

In your first statement you say you want to get XP back after installing Windows 7 - that, by definition,
infers that you have Windows 7 on your sytem.

In the second statement you confirm you have XP on drive C, which suggests to me you already know how to carry out a clean install.

However, your third statement infers that you want XP back to replace Windows 7, but that you really want to install Windows 7. Come again? No wonder we're confused.

I gave you a link asking you to show us your disk management layout so that we can give you the correct advice, but no, nothing.

I gave you a link explaining how to clean install Windows XP, but once again, no response.

If you continue to ask questions in such a confusing manner and you obviously haven't read the information I linked to you, I'll take my leave, because I still don't understand what it is you're trying to do.

If you want to return to XP after you install Windows 7 (there is no upgrade from XP - it will require a format, so all of your XP data is lost), then you either wipe the partition and install XP from scratch, or you create an image of your current XP installation using your favorite image creation software, and then restore it if you don't like Windows 7.

If you want help then post a screenshot of your maximized XP DIsk Mgmt drive map using this method: Screenshot with Paint.

Attach file with paper clip in Reply box.

We will advise you on best way to install Win7 and then if necessary revert to XP, if you don't want to Dual Boot.

well whatever it is..i already installed windows 7 ultimate :D thnx guyzz :)

Then the answer is that if you don't want Win7, boot the XP CD to clean reinstall. You can delete all partitions if you've backed up your data unless there is a WIn7 Recovery partition that you can try running from boot, or use the disks if you made them.

Too bad you didn't cooperate as we would have helped you work out all of these details, even save a backup image of XP so it could be reimaged to the HD in minutes if Win7 doesn't work out.
